Front-end publishing
Hi..
I noticed Joomla has standard user groups. One of them is "Authors". I want my Authors to be able to publish articles from the front end.
How do I do this?
If not possible: What does the "Author" group do? Is it possible for people in that group to log-in to the back-end?
Thanks,
Tom

Here's a description of all roles: http://docs.joomla.org/Access_Control_List
You will probably need to find an extension that might be able to accomplish the behaviour you are looking for.

Re: Front-end publishing
I was looking for this:
I can't find the link while making the menu-item
That is exactly my problem..
However: how does the Publisher log-in to the frond end?Publishers - Can publish plus do any of the above, front end only.

Re: Front-end publishing
Being Publisher is just a different group than the Author group. Publishers log in to the frontend the same way any other users do.

Unless you have removed it, the login module should already be present and visible on your frontpage. If you accidently did remove it, go to the Module Manager from your administrator backend and re-enable it.

Re: Front-end publishing
Right..
So I fixed that.
Now I can log-in, but I still can't create articles.
What I'd like is a menu that only appears for authors (easy), with links like "Add Article..".
However, when making that menu-item, I don't know what to link to..
Is this possible, or do I need an extension? If so, please recommend me one (free if possible)

Re: Front-end publishing
After you have logged in, the login module should transform into a module containing some other links, "Submit an Article" being one of them.

Not happening..moooh wrote:After you have logged in, the login module should transform into a module containing some other links, "Submit an Article" being one of them.
As soon as an author or a publisher logs in, it just says "Welcome <name>", and nothing more..

Re: Front-end publishing
My apologies, it is not in the login module, but rather a new module appearing called "User module".
If you are unable to see this module while logged in, make sure that it is:
A) Enabled
B) Set to display on the currently active menu
C) Set to a position that is supported by your current template.
Check all these things by going to the User Module from the Module Manager.

Re: Front-end publishing
My bad again, I'm mixing up names with a different CMS
The module is called "User Menu" and is a module of type "Menu". This module should already be present in your list of current modules, but if it is not, create a new module of type "Menu" and point it to the existing menu with the name "usermenu". This menu was pre-created when you installed Joomla! so unless you manually removed it, it should be there.
