Backing Up Joomla Site Properly?

Post by dklbwf » Mon Dec 20, 2010 1:28 pm

Hello Joomla Fam,

I have about 20 joomla sites that i have built and also host. I am trying to prevent having to recreate a site if my server was to crash. Wondering what would i need to back up, in order for me to bring back a site like nothing ever happened? Do i need to worry about my joomla files or database?? Is there a tool or something that can help with this?

Thanks N Advance!

You need both the joomla files and the database and the only tool you should even consider is akeeba backup from http://www.akeebabackup.com/

Not only will it do full backups but it also creates an installer so you can easily and quickly recover

I also would reconmend Akeeba backup, I never build a Joomla Site without it, it is very user friendly, regularly updated and well supported. There is also a remote backup application which allows you to backup many websites at the click of a button once configured, (Akeeba Remote Controll). Backups are easy to restore and it can even be used to migrate websites.
