Site newly backed up, but won't download

Have been regularly backing up my site and saving a copy to my hard drive. My last attempt backed up a 118MB file, but when I saved it to my hard drive it saved as a 0 byte file. I have tried this process several times and have had another site admin try it as well. Same problem in every case -- file shown as OK on the backup page but when downloaded, the file is saved as a 0 byte file.

Any suggestions? ......George

it would be helpful if you could explain how you backup your website on a regular basis.

There are really three places where I would look:
a) your backup file is not good on the server
b) your backup file download process fails
c) you're downloading a wrong backup file.

I would check a) first
