FLASH INCONSISTENT WITH JOOMLA

Post by codacor » Tue Dec 15, 2009 1:47 pm

Please visit my development website and observe the Flash images in the header. I am very confused about what is going on.

First of all, I use a MAC. I am viewing my site in Firefox and Safari. All latest versions.
If you are viewing on a PC, please confirm that along with the browser you are using.

On my MAC in those two browsers, I notice the following serious issues in the header:

1) If I click on any sub links or drop down menu items (i.e. the links below Network on the left sidebar navigation, the LATEST NEWS links, or any of the drop down menu items in the horizontal nav bar at the top), the header doesn't load at all.

Can anyone help, please?

Thank you.

By the way I was using IE8 on a PC, and the menu is positioned to all the way to the left. Just not showing right.

Did you setup your flash header on a module position header, do I am right?

Then you setup that module position to show in all website or to show in all sections, categories, and menus? Right.

One thing
unacceptably long pause of white space
, you can eliminated the blank part by making your flash to a transparent flash in CS3 or CS4.

And yes there are problems with the header. It is normal, if this is your first time working with Flash and Joomla problems will arise, but it will work believe me. I have done it before. Just keep testing and troubleshooting.

Hi. Thanks for you reply. There is a left menu called "THE SSHA", and there is a horizontal menu under the header. Everything else is a module. There is no menu on the right side.

NOTE: I previously had a flash header with a single swf file that had embedded images. it worked fine. showing on all pages. I then changed that flash header to an swf file pulling images from an xml file in a lib folder and image folder instead. That's when this problem began.

Thanks again for trying to help out.

To check if your Module Position Header which is the actual position of your Flash Animation, is setup to show up in all modules, sections, menus, etc.

Go to Extensions-->Module Manager--> then click on the Module you have the Flash Header, it should be on the module position call Header, then go inside the module and check the Menu Assigment it should be setup to all.

First check that and then we can continue.

Check the pictures too.

I didn't realize you referring to "Menu Assignment" in the Module Manager. Yes, of course that is set to "All". I checked that right away to see if it slipped or something.

Remember, as I said earlier. This problem did not occur when I used embedded images in the SWF. it only started when I converted to an XML set up. Just wanted to share that in case Joomla has issues with XML.

On your other attached image. I am not sure what you are pointing out to me. I have no idea how to correct that. Usual IE always causing problems. Any help there would be appreciated.

Just wanted to share that in case Joomla has issues with XML.
I don't think so, problems normally come because the user make a mistake.

On the menu yes I can help you.

Here are the general steps of what you need to do, but I'll fully explain don't worry.

General Explanation.

1. Create a specific css for IE8, which is where the menu problems appears.
2. Insert and call that css file inside your index.php

Before give the full explanation of what you need to do, can you go and check inside your CSS folder (inside the template that you are using right now,) see if you have any css called

ie6.css
ie7.css
ie8.css or anything that has the words ie6, ie7, and ie8 in it.

public_html/templates/YourTemplateName/css/

I will think about the flash header, but I normally use a full swf file to insert it in the position. I don't use XML, so you can try that back again, and check if that solves the problem.

Attached is a screenshot of my CSS files. Nothing with ie in it.

I already know the straight swf will work, but I do not want to use that because it is not user friendly to someone who does not know flash. I wanted to create a separate folder so the user could easily swap out images without having to bother with a flash library importing process. There are 36 images in that XML.

Thanks for staying on here. I appreciate it. Standing by.

For the flash thing, you can use the free tool from gavick.

Check this link, I sue the tool on this site that I developed http://www.spectraelite.com/JT/, and see if that's is something you can work with.

Is not flash, it just a Image display tool.

Check the gavick demo here -->http://tools.gavick.com/demo/photoslide-gk2

Ok let me get the code, for the menu problem.

Find this code inside the index.php inside your template

Code: Select all

<?php if ($tmpTools->getParam('theme_elements') && $tmpTools->getParam('theme_elements')!='-1') : ?>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="<?php echo $tmpTools->templateurl(); ?>/styles/elements/<?php echo $tmpTools->getParam('theme_elements'); ?>/style.css" type="text/css" />
<?php endif; ?>
and after that, paste this code and check if that fix the IE8 problem

Code to paste.
<!--[if IE 8.0]>
<style type="text/css">
.clearfix {display: inline-block;}
</style>
<![endif]-->

Made the changes in index.php. Awaiting a permission fix from my host. Please stand by and check soon. Less than 5 mins.

PS: Those Gavick tools look nice, but I am sketchy about how it will install with the flash logo I have. I assume there is an easy option to remove the thumbnails.

It seems not working yet, I'm going to be busy with my clients, right now, don't give up, the fix will come when it has to come. I'll be back after I finish with them.

By the meantime, keep looking, and trying things.

Yea. I'm trying. I wonder if it has to do with a directory path. I have attached a screenshot here for you in case it helps. The XML is in the lib folder. The 36 images are in the flashimages folder.

Honestly, I would rather scrap this flash approach and use that great module you introduced me to. I just need to get the logo working.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.
