I'm trying to login via SSL on shared hosting from 1and1. I have the cert setup and can browse https://mysite.com but when I enable the encryption for the login module, the login fails.

When encryption is set to "no" for the login module, viewing the source shows that the from action is set form action="/index.php". When the form action is set to "yes", it shows the action as form action="http://mysite.com/index.php". It is my understanding that this show up as https.

Running wireshark from the client shows that the user\pass is displayed in plain text no matter how I have SSL set. If I enable SSL for the entire site and turn on encryption for the login module, I'm sent back to the home page as if I hadn't logged on. Turning off SSL for the site, but leaving it on for the module allows me to login successfully, but the login is still processed over http.

Please let me know if there is any other information that would help sort this out.

I don't know whether this will be any help to you but on Joomla 1.6.1 I get
form action="https......
when login encryption is turned on.

I wonder whether it may be worth you testing on 1.6.1 and if it still fails asking the question in a 1.6 forum. Perhaps more people read the 1.6 forums than the 1.5 forums.
