I know this is a noob question but do I have to disable all plugins and modules before i do a manual install of the joomla patch.
I have fully loaded demo templates and I've been told by the maker that I should *Not* use simple scripts and wondering why? In the meantime, I've been doing the manual install of the patch in public_html but last time I don't remember disabling all extensions... is that how I should be doing it?
Thanks much... Dee

Oops, no I didn't mean to check the green.
I was told that if any modules, plugins are outdated, it could pose a problem (maybe even crash the site). Now I'm a little nervous. So you don't see any prob potentially???.. thanks again.. Dee

Ah now I understand it is always a good practice to change underwear on the same concept it is a good practice to change extension that are out of date.
What i do is once a week I check my developer to see if there is any new updates,if they have a news letter I subscribe so I am aware of new update or security release.
So once you upgrade check all your extension if there up to date.
Keen and eye on this document that will keep you one step ahead of a hacker.

Re: Upgrade joomla patch disable extensions first?
the basic huidleines are
providing you have not done anything to edit the joomla core, then doing an update - i use http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... lers/9332- will cause no problems.
there is not need to disable any plugins or extensions.
as lafrance recommends - checking the extensions is also a good idea or sign up for the developer mailing list.
if you are actually looking at migrating (1.0.x to 1.5.15) then that is something sightly different see http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_from_1 ... 1.5_Stable

Re: Upgrade joomla patch disable extensions first?
Thanks guys. I am still in the learning phase and I think that this is the best forum around. I'm still a little nervous about the process, but I was able to just do the upgrade the old fashioned way, dump it in the public_html. The only thing that I got nervous about before is that my JCE wasn't up to date, and when I upgraded the joomla but not the JCE, it messed up my site! So now, I disable some of the extensions just to be on the safe side.. thanks again Dee
