Joomla and going into secure (https://) mode.

Post by euoceo » Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:30 am

I have a question regarding Joomla modules and content when the site goes into secure mode. I just went through the rigorous Extended Validation process and installed the cert. I have areas on the site when the user needs to enter confidential info and thus goes into SSL mode. These places work fine as-is.

However, it's not unreasonable for the user to also access the site via https://toplevel.domainname.com...

Except when this is done, because I have modules that display external banners/data the ssl cert's "green bar" goes away as unsecured content on the page. Which is of course entirely reasonable.

My question is this; Can modules/content be toggled on/off depending on whether the site is in secure mode? I'm using the built-in banner system, but the banner itself is displayed through a 3rd party referral system. Just like being able to choose whether a module displays depending on the menu selection, there should also be a way display it (or not) if the site is in secure mode, but I don't see how this is readily done.

Am I overlooking something?
