My site is not opening

My site shows error on home page
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/wwwtric/public_html/index.php on line 89

I did not do anything on my site for a very long time.... This project was more or less an experiment with joomla.... just to see how friendly this can be for a designer who doesn't know much coding.....

It was working fine when I checked it last (couple of months back)

Today it is showing this error. Is my site hacked?

What should I do to rectify it.

Thanks in advance

You have been hacked. Your code contained links to teen porn movie sites. (was before visible in your admin login code) This means you will be hacked again if you do not follow the following :

[ ] Ensure you have the latest version of Joomla. Delete all files in your Joomla installation. Replace the deleted files with fresh copies of a current full version of Joomla, and fresh copies of extensions and templates used. Only by replacing all files in the installation (including extensions and templates) can you be sure to remove the backdoors inserted and hidden in files and directories

[ ] Review Vulnerable Extensions List

[ ] Review and action Security Checklist checklist 7 to make sure you've gone through all of the steps.

[ ] Scan all machines with FTP, Joomla super admin, and Joomla admin access for malware, virus, trojans, spyware, etc.

[ ] Change all passwords and if possible user names for the website host control panel and your Joomla site.

[ ] Use proper permissions on files and directories. They should never be 777, but ideal is 644 and 755

[ ] Check your htaccess for for any odd code (i.e. code which is not in the standard htaccess supplied as part of the Joomla installation).

[ ] Check the crontab or Task Scheduler for unexpected jobs/tasks.[/quote]

Thanks a lot leolam.

The actual problem happened months back and I resolved it.
But yes now my site is hacked. This one, along with a few others. Rest of the sites were in HTML/CSS and I had their backups in my computer.

I do not have any backup of this joomla site on my hard disk. In fact I don't know how can one have a backup of a joomla site on hard disc.

Am I totally scre*ed. What do I do now. Is their any way I can retrieve my articles (original photoshop and illustrator tutorials) as well as database of registered members.

many Thanks in advance

regards

Yes you can but you need specialized help if you are not sure howto......I have described the steps which is valid for most users. A pro 8) can do this different so you might consider contacting somebody through the professional support forum. http://forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=177 You will have entries in several hundreds of files and folders

I would be very, very worried with your server setup since this looks like a hack through the server since you have multiple sites hacked. This does not exclude your own PC btw.....

My hosting provider removed the malware from the backend. My site started working fine. Though they mentioned that I should upgrade to latest Joomla version.

I tried joomla updater that was installed in my site. While istalling that I got some error and now my site is not working at all.

Have I lost all my tutorials on the site?

What did I do wrong. I just followed the steps.

Please Please HELP
