Site Hacked and now locked out of admin

Post by MonkeyDr01 » Sat Jun 01, 2013 7:38 am

Hi all....three years ago I had a site built using Joomla 1.5 (http://www.monkeyd ragon.co.uk) but due to family tragedies and work commitments it lay largely redundant whilst I got my life back on track.

I have recently started getting the site ready for a relaunch but unfortunately, yesterday it was hacked by someone called (kudos). Luckily my hosting company were able to restore the template and now I am obviously very eager to load any new security patches (something I regretably have never done to date), change passwords and restore missing graphics etc.

However, the hacker has changed my password/username or both so I can not get into the admin. How do I get round this???

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Reason: kudos removed. site link broken.

To regain access

I would strongly advise reading on how to un-hack your site, a second recommendation is to upgrade your site to minimum Joomla 2.5, as 1.5 is no longer supported.

bewebdev - great many thanks for the link. All sorted now and fully 'unhacked'.

Is there an 'idiots guide' on how to upgrade to more recent versions of Joomla? - it's something I've kinda been reluctant to do for fear of rendering the site useless if parts are not compatible.....that, and not being quite as tech savvy as alot of you guys obviously are.

I'm a whizz in sql, but that's about it!

MonkeyDr

here is the official Joomla version

http://docs.joomla.org/J2.5:Migrating_f ... Joomla_2.5

it recommends using Jupgrade, which has had very mixed reviews, we prefer spupgrade look it up in the Joomla extensions (it is a commercial component but hasn't let us down so far). All i would say is research, backup, backup, test and test again.
