My joomla website is recently experiencing slow intermittent launch and now I've noticed the following hard error. Is this server related or database?

* Error loading Plugins: Lost connection to MySQL server during query SQL=SELECT folder AS type, element AS name, params FROM jos_plugins WHERE published >= 1 AND access <= 2 ORDER BY ordering
* Error loading Plugins: MySQL server has gone away SQL=SELECT folder AS type, element AS name, params FROM jos_plugins WHERE published >= 1 AND access <= 2 ORDER BY ordering
* Error loading Components: MySQL server has gone away SQL=SELECT * FROM jos_components WHERE parent = 0
* Error Loading ModulesMySQL server has gone away SQL=SELECT id, title, module, position, content, showtitle, control, params FROM jos_modules AS m LEFT JOIN jos_modules_menu AS mm ON mm.moduleid = m.id WHERE m.published = 1 AND m.access <= 2 AND m.client_id = 1 ORDER BY position, ordering
* Error Loading ModulesMySQL server has gone away SQL=SELECT id, title, module, position, content, showtitle, control, params FROM jos_modules AS m LEFT JOIN jos_modules_menu AS mm ON mm.moduleid = m.id WHERE m.published = 1 AND m.access <= 2 AND m.client_id = 1 ORDER BY position, ordering

It looks like your web server is getting cut off from your mysql database:

Does it take a long time before this error comes back? If so, maybe your queries are taking too long to run.

Do your web server and database server live on the same machine?

Where are you hosting?

Yes, it will clock for a long time attempting to render a page prior to the error displaying. This error just began recently and I host with godaddy. Sometimes the site clocks a long time upon launch then displays page fine. This just started happening recenly over last couple of weeks, I have not installed any new plugins or components have added little content. I optimize my mysql database daily. Cannot understand and wondering if this is server related?

I would suggest turning on Joomla debugging and see if you can find individual queries that are running longer than expected or returning a ton of data.

I assume you are on a shared server at GoDaddy? Try doing a reverse IP lookup on your IP address and see how many other sites they have on your server. If there are a bunch, that could be bad:

Doing a Google search for the following brought up a lot of results. I didn't see any sure-bet solutions, but you might investigate a few of them:

"MySQL server has gone away" godaddy

In the end, you might just contact GoDaddy and see if they can help you investigate the issue.

If you find a solution, post back here for others. Let me know if you are still stuck and can't find any resolution.

Thanks and I will look into your troubleshooting suggestions. After several phone calls yesterday and today with godaddy with no remediation or identification of server issues, it was revealed today that there is a problem with the server and they escalated a ticket to address the server problem. They did bring to my attention suggestions to help performance with my site itself which I will investigate the but root problem is server related. Still not fixed and waiting for ticket to be closed. I am concerned about credibility of a website that is hosted on shared server companies. I lost 2 days of potential affiliate sales and every time someone tries to launch my site and it crashes or very slow due to server issue, my website loses credibility.

I want to stabalize with godaddy and look at other alternatives to ensure reliable server hosting availability and performance. Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks!

Thanks. It was just fixed by Hosting Support. I appreciate the quick turn around coming into a holiday weekend. It is running like a champ now! I will monitor all weekend and if any issues arise, PM you. I like godaddy services (this is not a spam for anyone else reading) overall and help desk is great. I discovered Joomla through godaddy actually. I will keep my fingers crossed that the servers will remain stable. I really don't want to switch at this point. Thanks, again. :)

I don't think that would help. It seems like maybe changing the MySQL connection configuration settings or something. I would PM GODADDY and see if they can help. I do think posting something back here would be a good idea for others who come looking.
