Recently, I started noticing a rare but unique problem when loading one of our Joomla websites: Most of the time, the page loads fine with no problems. In rare occurances, the page will display unreadable characters such as:

It seems like the page is trying to load an image or an executable as the content of the page -- but there are no errors in the PHP logs so I'm not sure what to do from here. I did an upgrade to the latest version of 1.5.26 from 1.5.25 but still having the problem.

If anybody has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

So I ended up locating a warning in the PHP log that said there was was an illegal string offset "active" in pagination.php so I commented that line out and haven't seen the problem since.

I'll update this thread if the problem persists.

FOUND THE PROBLEM: GZIP Page Compression!

Disabling this option in the System settings fixed the problem completely!
