Slow response times and load issues.
Hey guys, for the past two weeks of developing the front page of my site - i've been trying to ignore the first load of my site after a few hours day in and day out.
Once I have loaded the site, it seems to load almost instantly but upon myself and others first load of the day and after loading the site 2 hours from before, it takes 16 seconds before the site responds and loads.
So far I have re-installed Joomla, yet to fix this problem.
Now i'm seeking you guys help as I love Joomla and I don't want to change my content managment system, but I feel if I can't get this resolved then I will have to.
I'd produced this "Joomla Forum Post Assistant" diagnostic
Problem Description:
Site takes upwards of 15 seconds upon first load to load the entire page, all other sites and pages on my server run instantly so it\'s not my server.
Actions Taken To Resolve:
Gzip has been enabled, have re-installed Joomla 1.5 a few times, problem still remains.
Diagnostic Information

Re: Slow response times and load issues.
I've been having the same problem (http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=433&t=275161) with no resolution so far.
Who is your webhost? I still don't know if it's my webhost or something inherent to Joomla. Mine is Lunarpages. If there is a webhost which doesn't have this issue I would switch instantly, but I'm afraid it's Joomla.

Re: Slow response times and load issues.
Yeh, I saw your thread but didn't want to hi-jack it! hehe
My hosting provider is site5 - I really don't think it's a host issue as all of the other pages on my site load instantly, even my vBulletin forum - http://www.maximum-jackson.com/discussion
I hope this is resolved soon, I want my main site to go live! I don't want to switch cms's.

Re: Slow response times and load issues.
Your site loads fast enough for me. Have you reviewed the page cache component from Joomla performance? It may help.
BTW most hosts now run php5 mysql 5 and Apache 2 especially since php4 is not EOL.. you might like to hassle your host on that.

Re: Slow response times and load issues.
Problem Description:
Also have the extremely slow load times. My host is Startlogic. I've been in contact with them and they tell me they are rebuilding their SQL servers, but since I see other people having the same problem, I thought I would go ahead and post. I have two sites running Joomla! and I have the same problem for both sites, however the time it takes to load a page can be up to 3 minutes.
Actions Taken To Resolve:
- Implemented the .htaccess file that came with the Joomla! install
- Made sure register_globals was disabled

Re: Slow response times and load issues.
So, I got frustrated with the real slow resolve times and I switched webhosts from Startlogic to Hostmonster and that solved the problem. Startlogic just updated all their servers and are having problems with their MySQL servers. So if you are having problems with real slow load times, you may want to talk to your host.

Re: Slow response times and load issues.
These sorts of issues may still be host related as well as potentially Joomla! related. Have you been able to make a new Databse (load the sample data) and test the response of a fresh installation in comparison with your current instance. Have you reviewed any graphics, add-ons, extensions, componets etc that are loading n the frontpage, have you added any additional JacaScript or mootools/Ajax driven components? Try un-installing specific extensions one by one to see if one single item is dragging you down? Has you database on the current instance been optimised recently, if you are in the middle of building, there is likely to be a number of edits and deletes happening, all of which can be leaving unoptimised space in the DB tables. Have you turned on site debugging to check how many queries are being run and from what extensions?
