Disable Create An Account and keep core registration active

Post by zhappo » Wed Aug 19, 2009 10:37 pm

We have the Login Module on the Frontpage with "Create An Account" active. Since we are using JomSocial, we would like all site registrations to go through the JomSocial registration process. If we disable the "Create An Account" through [Global Configuration » System] to remove the option on the Frontpage module, JomSocial stops registering. So . . .

1. How do we remove "Create An Account" from the Frontpage module without disabling the Joomla! core registration ability (therefore allowing JomSocial to continue working)?

or

2. Redirect the "Create An Account" link to point to the JomSocial registration page/process?

3. What are the ramifications of the solution once the current (1.5.14) version of Joomla! is updated?

Thanks.

I'm certain that at least a couple of the third Party logins in this listing:

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... sults/5514

will permit disabling that link.
Don't HACK the Joomla! core, Instead "Extend" and/or "Override."
Stay ON the update path.

None of the 15 extensions does what we need (although some have interesting features we will keep in mind).

Anyone else?

I have disabled all login modules and added Captcha to JomSocial. However, I am still getting bogus accounts created, lots of them!

I am wondering if this is because, whether or not a registration module is published or not, the following url is still accessible:

/index.php?option=com_user&view=register

Do bots know this url? Could this be why I am getting lots of bogus accounts? Can this page be made inaccessible (perhaps through htaccess, or something)?

There are extensions available that intercept all calls to Joomla registration and redirect them toward JomSocial...
