Piotr,

I will take a look at this soon, but I wanted to ask everybody if they would like me to add support (either within ArtCats, or as a separate related module) for JoomlaWorks' K2 component, since it is looking to be the most full-featured CCK component (compared to JoomSuite's Resource and Yootheme's Zoo components).

You can find out more information about it here:

and a demo here:

This would be wonderful really! Would be very nice to use K2, ArtCats with SubCat patch J 1.5.10 and possibly (Jentla)?

Fotis doing this K2 extension is really a very nice step forward for Joomla together with Jentla project now ( http://www.jentla.com/) so if you have time and motivation...

lets do it! :D

Hi,
for me K2 looks best out of the mentioned ones too, but I haven't tested CCKs extensively yet.
Anyway I would prefer to have a fix first for the issue I mentioned previously :laugh:

Thanks for your work, actually I think ArtCats should be integrated in Joomla 1.6, it's so useful.

erm, here I am again with another thing added to a wishlist :-[

would be sweet to have an extension for Xmap (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... 66/details)
so the ArtCats links get indexed into a site map, or in my particular case thru Xmap into /sitemap.xml

update:
workaround: create dummy xmap menu, without selecting any module (it won't be published). Then add into it missing categories using Articles » Section / Blog. In Xmap component add dummy menu.

if anybody is interested to see ArtCats in action, check
http://cankisou.smartwebstudio.cz/en/Videoclips/
ArtCats extension is used in sections: Foto/Video, Concerts and About Čanki people, always in top-right corner of the content area. I decided to use it to simplify process of adding new content and categories for the client. Site is done, will go live within 2 weeks.

As ArtCats are not working with Joomlas' default SEF at the moment, but after some time I managed to use sh404sef with a few hacks; info is posted in sh404SEF reviews.

Oh yeah, I would forget. To make ArtCats work properly with sh404SEF, enable option Insert menu Itemid if none in sh404SEF configuration > Advanced > Itemid management.

as for ArtCats and Joomla default SEF:
I noticed that when Joomla default SEF is enabled, the links to articles/ categories that are not accessible thru menus are invalid thus routed 404 or an incorrect article (with category's ID). Engine doesn't create urls even if they are present in a content or in this case in ArtCats links.

workaround is same as for Xmap: create section blog so links to all underlying categories and articles will be created by the sef engine:
In Joomla Menus create dummy ArtCats menu, without selecting any module (this way it won't be published in frontend). Then add new Menu Item: Articles » Section / Blog that is a parent of missing stuff.

SEF in websites is a must for me, but as I wrote in my previous post it's also possible to use sh404SEF.

An updated version of the Subcats Patches should be released soon as well with changes to support Joomla 1.5.10 (I had actually completed these at work over two weeks ago, but I didn't bring those changes back to my development PC at home where I have the subversion repository).

Hi Orware

hope you got your updates for your dev PC and we can test the new sub cat version.

How things going any updates?

Piotr, darb, and everyone I've got some fairly exciting news (well, at least for me :-).

I've got a new code repository/project management site up that I encourage everyone to go and check and sign up to if they'd like.

You can find the ArtCats project page here:
http://code.orware.net/projects/show/artcats

And I'll be adding in my code and changelog info for subcats soon enough, along with the current issues with ArtCats that people have been sending me over the past month.

There are forums and an issue tracker for those who would want to add suggestions for me :-).

The SubCats 1.5.10.4 patches will be coming very soon, as soon as I can get that project into this system and updated :-).

I've got a number of other small projects that I'd like to begin sharing as well.

Enjoy and I hope to see you guys on the new project site too!

Hi Orware,

I just started using your artcats mod on the weekend and am very pleased to say that it seems to be doing just what i want function wise - thats incredible!

I use it to generate a category article menu list with the default template. I'd like to add the article created date underneath the article title in the list. I think i found the correct place to do this in tmpl/default.php

Code:
<li class="articles<?php echo $artcats->getClassSuffix(); ?> <?php echo $item->active; ?>">
           <a href="<?php echo $item->link; ?>">
               <?php echo $item->text;?> <?php echo $item->count; ?>
           </a>
           <br/>

           <!-- put in date added here, when you figure out how :)
           <?php echo JHTML::_('date', $item->created, JText::_('DATE_FORMAT_LC2')) ?>
         -->

        </li>

However it puts up the current date and time - is this because you defined 'date' as

Code:
$date =& JFactory::getDate();
        $this->now = $db->Quote($date->toMySQL());

in helper.php? If this is the case, can you help me with a quick fix - my php isn't anywhere good enough
to figure it out myself.

Many thanks,

Gavin

Gavin,

I think I will need to look into this since the created date is not something that is actually included in the final list. I will need to go into helper.php and go through it to make sure that the creation date is included (it will not be a one place change in the code).

Would you mind going to the ArtCats project site and creating an issue item in the tracker for me please?

http://code.orware.net/projects/show/artcats

Thanks!

I am looking for a way to list users and number of articles they have written in some way like this:

Code:
user1(4)
user2(10)
user3(1)
...

The behaviour should be the same like for categorie/section listings. The articles should appear in blogstyle (newest first) when click on the link.

Is that possible with artcat? If not is it hard to implement?

I had the same error. The problem is that there is a lot of code in this that relies on PHP5. My host defaults to PHP4, but you should be able to force it to use PHP5 by adding this line to your .htaccess, or creating an .htaccess file with just this line:

Quote:
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

I'm now going to work on adding the category images to this module, which doesn't seem to be included. Would anyone be interested in the code if I do this?

This seems like a great function, I'm sure everybody including Orware would appreciate it.
Probably it's a good idea to let him know at the ArtCats project page > Features:
http://code.orware.net/projects/artcats/issues?set_filter=1&tracker_id=2

Would be great to have images included straight from Joomlas' default Category/Section Manager > Details > Image

am I the only one that using the "categories" or "both" modes is getting a completely expanded list of categories with all their articles? I am using the "Combine Category and Article Lists" option, as it states that it should only list the articles of the current category, and not the ones of the others. is that correct?

also, in the expanded mode, I am not seeing the plus and minus icons at all, so all the tree is expanded by default, so I guess this may be somehow related with the previous error. any ideas?

by the way, I am using artcats v2.0.3 with joomla 1.5.11

Hi,

I am having a problem with ArtCats 2.0.3. When I add new categories to my Main Menu - they don't appear in ArtCats anymore.

For example, I have set up this page: http://buteykosleep.com/sleep-introduction.html

and have used the Menu Module to display categories (dark blue background) and you can see "Test", but "Test" doesn't appear in my ArtCats list (light blue links).

Any solutions?

I have attached my ArtCat settings for you to view.

Robert

Hi,

I'm just fumbling around with Joomla for the first time and I think this might solve my problem, but I'd like to make sure before installing it as I'm trying to keep things simple and avoid going down the wrong path or making things too complex, too early.

I have a section called FILMS and then categories within that which are film titles - let's say the category is called DIE HARD and I also have TOY STORY and FREE WILLY.

I then want to post articles within that - review, trailer, photos, trivia - for that film.

When the user hits the site, the main menu on the left hand side is title FILMS and then has a list of film titles beneath it.

FILMS
- Die Hard
- Toy Story
- Free Willy

What I want to happen is that, when someone clicks a film title, that menu will expand and stay expanded until they move to another film, or another section of the site, so they'd see...

FILMS
- Die Hard
- - review
- - trailer
- - photos
- - trivia
- Toy Story
- Free Willy

Is this the module for me? Any advice much appreciated.

Yes this is the module for you and you can try extended menu too. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/structure-&-navigation/menu-systems/tree-menus/163/details

you can install artcats and your
FILMS
- Die Hard
- - review
- - trailer
- - photos
- - trivia
- Toy Story
- Free Willy you create different subcategories where you can make this.

Tips is also use JContentPlus to version 1.1.8 http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/content-&-news/blog/8217/details

and then also you can have content templater - make predefined content http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/core-enhancements/content-management/7152/details

FrontpagePlus - with section and category support http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/structure-&-navigation/sections-&-categories/7131/details

Superfish menu to connect all categories with menu structure http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/structure-&-navigation/menu-systems/drop-&-tab-menus/6731/details

Organize your menu structure in combination - SWmenuFree http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/structure-&-navigation/menu-systems/menu-editors/168/details

Now you got a good structure but pls come back and tell us how well it goes and also your url if you have!

Best of luck!

Right, thanks again for your post - I'm going to take your suggestions one at a time (the JContent plus and content templator module are going to be hugely useful, I think).

So far, I've just installed ArtCats 1.5.2. What I'd like to happen is, when you click on DIE HARD in the films list, you go to a defined single article - in this case, Intro - with all articles (Intro, Clips, Trailer, Info) displayed in their own menu, and which stay there as you click into the various articles.

My current setup is getting me all the articles in the category popping up together (I could live with that), and then when I click into an indivdual article, my ArtCats menu disappears. That's with DIE HARD set up as Category Blog Layout.

You can see it here - http://rofl.sleepydisco.com (u - guest / p - preview)

Alternatively, if I set the category up as Article Layout, I just get my Intro article showing when I click on DIE HARD, but I don't get the ArtCats menu at all.

Any ideas, or am I approaching this wrong?

I downloaded the ArtCat and the subcat patch .I have a very large content sytem, and by now a quite hefty menu system. Joomla is great, but it kind of sucks to have to do the same thing over and over again to achieve the sections and categories. Then doing it all over again with the menus. So i found ArtCats and felt like this could save me alot of time. (Edited away the part of the expandeble menu not working, it's working now)

but I do have another question. When I use the expandelble menu and click on a subcategory, the whole menu retracts itself, very annoying. I would like it to stay open until I change category. Like the autoexpandeble menu works in the extended menu module. Would it be possible to make the menu behave like this using CSS or adding another template?

So this should be a really simple process.

I'm trying to get a listing of the articles in one category to appear as a module on a menu item.

The module appears, but there is nothing in it.

Any ideas?

Screenshot of module parameters attached.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi,

Using ArtCats to display an expandable menu item on our site, however it is not showing our SOBI2 directory categories within the menu. This component has a specific URL and is linked in through the top menu but as I said is not been picked up by ArtCats.
I realise that ArtCats is mainly used for showing articles etc but is there a way to display other components and possibly the pages within them?
This would also be great if it could work with EventList which is also not showing up.

Anyone know if its possible to get this working? Thanks!

As I understand ArtCats only showing the different categories and its subcategories in combination with articles. http://orware.net/images/stories/files/ArtCats+Frontend+Demo+Screenshots.pdf

I would like it to work for making it work with subcategory patch showing up/viewing correct hierarchical structure tree when adding a article to different subcategories ie:

Category A
-subcategory A
--subcategory AA
---Subcategory AAA
Category B
-Subcategory BB
--Subcategory BB
--Subcategory BC
-- Subcategory BD etc

This is missing and is very important to have for setting up the different articles in correct subcategories. This is working nice in new J 1.6 where you see the structures when adding an article to different subcategories..

Omar is this possible to solve for subcategory patch and ArtCats J 1.5 too? :(
