I'm a bit confused with this component. If anyone could shed some light on it for me, I'd surely appreciate it.

I've installed the component found in http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsre ... .2beta.zip

I can create groups and assign users to groups. Then, I go into the component menu in the back end, select a menu item, select no check in the access box under any particular item for a new group I've created, and I expect that the menu item will no longer appear visible or functional to a user of this group. However, when I log in as a user of this group, I still see the menu item, I can still click it and navigate to the page.

What am I doing wrong?

I found a reference somewhere in the forums saying the component would still show the menu item but would just deny access to the content/function, but that's not the case for me. I can click and access any menu item regardless of my group.

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

P.S. are there any solid plans to improve the Joomla! acl in the core at some point? I have to roll out a Joomla site in September that will require a finer grain of user permission than the core allows (hence the noix acl testing I'm doing)

1. Install component.
2. Components->Access Control->Manage Groups
3. Click New.
4. Set Group Name; Set parent group Registered (also tried with Author)
5. Click Menu under Adapter, select Front End, select User menu, click on one menu item and check Access, click on another and uncheck Access.
Image
6. Click the user menu and edit a user and put the user in group just created.
7. Go to menu in front in, log in as this user, user can click both links and access both components.

My user is neither restricted by not seeing the link, nor by not being redirected/denied access to the links when clicked.

Thanks.

I installed com_noixacl2.0.3beta.zip, plg_system_noixACL.zip, plg_user_noixacl.zip.

My user can now see only the links he should be allowed to see in his menu.

Thanks, joomila!

.....and I'll write a review now ;)

One problem ... if you assign a user to a noixACL group and don't assign him to a Joomla! group also (like Registered). If you delete the noixACL group, the user doesn't show up in the User section any more. It's still a user, but he isn't seen in the list of users.

Well, I thought I had this working, but when I tried adding more groups and users, it got messed up, and it is not working as I had hoped (again).

Let's say you have two sections, and each section has two categories. I need one user1 who can put an article in section 1 category 1 and section 1 category 2. I need user2 who can put an article in section 1 category 1. I need user3 who can put article in section 1 category 2. I need user4 who can put article in section 2 category 1 and 2. I need user5 who can put article in section 2 category 1. I need user6 who can put article in section 2 category 2.

user1 and user4 can edit/publish articles in their sections.

user2, user3, user5, user6 can only write article in their own category.

I've noticed that when I click on Components->Access Control->Manage Users and then select a user, it goes into the User page, and there is no tick mark in the multigroup area for the group I want him to be in. I tick that box, and click save, but when I go back in, he is not in that group any more. I want user2 to be in group Registered, and also in group AuthorForSection1Cat1. So I set him to Registered, and click AuthorForSection1Cat1 in the multigroup area.

I've also noticed, that when I click Components->Access Control->Manage Users, the first time I go in that page, the multigroup section is there. If I save, and then click on a user again, the multigroup section is gone.

Also, jos_noixacl_multigroups table contains 0 rows. I think this multigroup part is not working right yet.

Do you install a plugin noixACL user? http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/9395/36256/plg_user_noixacl.zip
Because this plugins is responsable to save in multigroups table.

I've tried just about everything, and I cannot get this component to work at all for what I need.

I started with a clean 1.5.9 install. I put in the noix acl component, the user plugin, the system plugin, and the content submission component. I enabled the plugins.

I have a two sections. Each section has two categories.

If I have a section author, he can write in any category in his section. If I have a category author, he can only write in his category.

The user menu has links to each article submit kind. Submission links are type "Special".
Image

The user is set in a group for just his section or category. The group parent is Registered.
Image
Image

When user goes to home page and logs in, user menu should show him his submit link (but it doesn't)
Image

Further issue, now when s1author user clicks on the links in the user menu which DO show up, it gives him no access error.

I think the component isn't working as intended. I appreciate your willingness to make fixes and keep trying, and hopefully I will be able to use this component some day or they will just make roles a feature in core before September when I have to roll something out.

I think there is something within the logic which checks with the rules in the database ...... the behaviour of the component is not always consistent. Now, without changing anything, I log in as author of section user and see all the menu links on user menu, and have access to all menu links (even the ones I shouldn't).

Also, I'm not sure I mentioned before, but the important thing is to have the component not even display menu links for which the user cannot access. I want no mention of things he cannot do on his menus.

At this point, both users have access to the things they should and no access to the things they should not. Good.

Now, it is only the matter of the menu items showing for things for which there is no access. If that would go away, it would be perfect.

I will try to get Eclipse running so I can hunt down why the behavior is not always consistent .... I think it is something like one pathway to a screen does not have all the hooks that another pathway to that screen has, and some rule is not stored in the db or some configuration not saved, something like that, which is eventually self-corrected when you go to the screen with the other pathway at some point ... if that makes any sense.

I have Registered group configured to have permission to Access two Registered links in my menu.
Image

I have a sub-group S1: Category One Author of Registered configured to have permission to Access one Special link in my menu.
Image

Unless I change S1: Category One Author to have Access to the two Registered links, a user in that group, such as s1c1author, cannot access the two Registered links.
Image

How can I use multigroup to put s1c1author into both Registered and S1: Category One Author groups?

Please read http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=1583262#p1583262

Resume: when you create a new group the default access level to this group is "Registered". And your menu itens is "special". In this version you cant select accees level to your group. But in next version you do.

Multi group add all rules from all groups with you user have.

I think the solution of your problem is.
in group from user select: registered.
In multigroup area select: S1: Category One Author
and save. This way your user absorve rules from registered and category.

I think I need an adapter for the com_contentsubmit. Even though my group members are granted Access to certain menu items, they get the joomla 403 page (not the noix 403 page) when trying to access them.

I have some registered users who need access to write articles in one category of one section. I made a group for each category, I made a link to a content submit for each group, but when the group member goes to that link it gets error no permission. It sees they are Registered, but it doesn't let them author the article, even tho there is permission in noix group to do it.

Any suggestions? Do I need to write an adapter for the contentsubmit component?

You not need a adapter. You need hack the com_content in submit article to filter category/sections from permission of your user.

[note] In line 227(components/com_content/views/article/view.html.php) is the function to get sections.

I've installed noix just for testing etc. Now I've uninstalled it but I've got a big problem. Editors who will logon at the frontend are getting this annoying error screen in spanish or something like that. When I logon at the frontend with my superadmin account it's the same story. What's going on with this? I already re-installed noix but it doesn't repair my problem. Can you please tell me what to do about this?

Did you create any groups with noixACL installed that you did not delete before uninstalling noixACL? The component does not uninstall gracefully - or didn't for me - it leaves the noixACL groups in the table so some of your users may not be "Author" or "Editor" any more?

I think that's the problem. I've made one testgroup, but it wasn't deleted before I deleted noix. Maybe stupid, but perhaps someone can tell which tables I have to remove from my mysql database to make it work again. Because now I'm getting errors like:Permissão - Voce não tem permissão para acessar este menu

I've solved the problem by deleting acl.php and acl.xml from the plugins folder.

Is it possible to deny access to a category ?

From my little testing activity with noixACL I can add privileges ( i.e. a category defined as Special can be accessed from a group ) but not remove privileges ( i.e : a category defind as Pulbic cannot be hided to a group, OR, a category defined as Registered cannot be hided to a group )

Is it correct ?
Of course I d' like to have this functionality , maybe it ocudl be achieved adding an extra fpermission ( deny access ) to articles>frontend>permissions ( currently I can set only a flag to allow acees )

I'm using noixACL 2.0.4beta

Thanks

Hello,
Please could the Developer of Noix, or someone else in the know, tell me whether this configuration of Groups is correct and intended.
Image
I have created a Group called MyGroup1, and set it's parent to Registered.
For the original group, Author, I have set it's parent to MyGroup1.
Now MyGroup1 is "inline" with the original heirarchy of Groups.

I have also created My Group 2, which I have set the Parent to Manager, and thats all.
Now My Group 2 appears "in parallel" to the original Groups.

Are both correct configurations as per the Developers intentions????

However, in Users setup, I can only select one Group at a time.
I cannot select My Group 2 "AND" Manager.
Is this intended??

Please compare with JCommunity Core version, where you can select "parallel" groups.
But I would prefer to use this work, as it is Open Source, whereas JCommunity is not.

Many thanks
John
