Podcasting Suite, Beta 3, released
Beta 3 of the Podcasting suite has been released (whoo hooo! First my Joomla release!). Grab it here: http://www.jlleblanc.com/blogcategory/0/ .
iTunes support has been added, although I have not been able to test this as you have to go through Apple's approval process, which can take multiple days. Please try it out and let me know if it works with iTunes.

Dont know if this helps.
But in 1.0 I have added your modification to feedcreator that adds support for enclosures [at least i hope I got everything].
To clarify, can you post here what modifications you made to feedcreator, so i can double check.

The modifications to feedcreator in the last version were mainly for enclosures, yes. These changes are in the following file: http://www.jlleblanc.com/feedcreator.class.zipstingrey wrote: Dont know if this helps.

In this new version, there have been a lot of additions to make way for the iTunes specific tags. Also, I had to hack the date class within feedcreator to get valid dates, which I hope to refine later.

Hey Joe,
Just noticed that the iTunes: Image field isn't finding my file. Is it supposed to be in the same location as the rss_mambo.gif? Or whatever the default names is...
Thanks,
Ben Dowling

I just got done with some testing and noticed that the image tag is being repeated. The location, for now, is set to the same directory as your podcasts, although you can override this by providing the complete URL.benzeene wrote: Hey Joe,

Regarding the iTunes image reference - Is this only for iTunes, or should it be reflected in the RSS feed from the Podcast?
Thanks,
Ben

I need to go in and make both images the same (or give you the option to change either). It's next on my Todo list.benzeene wrote: Regarding the iTunes image reference - Is this only for iTunes, or should it be reflected in the RSS feed from the Podcast?

Re: Podcasting Suite, Beta 3, released
Hi,
I'm completely new to Joomla and the Podcasting Suite and am trying to get things up and running. Everything's gone fine and is working but I'm stumped as to how to subscribe to the feed via iTunes. When I click on the "podcast" image I can choose to open "podrss20.xml" with iTunes but nothing happen. I'm sure that I'm screwing up somewhere along the line but can't figure out where.
Any help would be huuuuuuugely appreciated.
thanks

Re: Podcasting Suite, Beta 3, released
To subscribe using iTunes, take the URL from the "podcast" image and paste it into Advanced > Subscribe to podcast... in version 5 and above. If you want to be a part of the iTunes directory (as most podcasters do), you will need to go to the directory and click 'Publish a Podcast'. Your feed will be subject to Apple's approval. Please let me know if you have any problems getting it into the directory for technical reasons.ods wrote: Hi,

Re: Podcasting Suite, Beta 3, released
The Podcast component is designed to work with Joomla's existing content structure. In the backend, go to Content > Section Manager, "New" (if you do not already have a section) and Content > Category Manager, "New" to set this up.backtrac wrote: How do I create categories?

Re: Podcasting Suite, Beta 3, released
Joe,
Should've email you...I've had in operation an iTunes feed since beta 2. (I hacked the iTunes info into the feed.) Anyway, I upgraded to Joomla 1.0.2 from 1.0.1 and tried out your mp3player component.
For some reason, it showed up in the backend menu as 'podcast' as well, rather than 'mp3player'. After uninstalling it (and maybe before), my podcast feed began to generate the following error message. (I've upgraded the comp, mod & bot to beta 3, but it didn't help.)
I've checked the line in the code, but it points to:
Any ideas on how I can resolve this?? Thanks!

Never mind... finally figured out that the permission on /cache/podrss20.xml had gotten locked up somehow. Chmodded this and it all works right.

Yeah, this seems to be a common problem. As far as the mp3player/podcasting confusion goes, I'll double-check the player as I was doing a lot of work on both of these at the same time.bulldog wrote: Never mind... finally figured out that the permission on /cache/podrss20.xml had gotten locked up somehow. Re: Podcasting Suite, Beta 3, released
Ok I am having "trouble" getting this thing working. I installed all of the Beta 3 files, uploaded my MP3 podcast and published it.
But when I go to the page, I get this: http://www.baseballtangent.com/content/view/20/31/
Where it just shows the "{enclose baseballtangentAaronClapp04-14-05.mp3}," but has no link to the file.
What am I doing wrong?

That's hilarious!!
My initial guess is that the player doesn't work well with non-standard play rates. I'm betting that the file is recorded at something other than 44Hz. Try resampling it to that speed and I bet it'll play right.

Thanks again bro!
Since I'm on the subject, regarding Podcasts, is the address I use to submit the same as the address that is linked here: http://www.baseballtangent.com/content/view/20/31/
The address is just: http://www.baseballtangent.com/podcasts ... -14-05.mp3
The normal weblink. How does this make the "podcast" component special?

Not to speak for the creator...but where I see the podcast component beneficial is in the module-side.
It is the module that generates the XML feed for podcasting.

I am trying to find the XML link that this thing creates but I can't find reference to it anywhere in the component, manage clips or anything. Obviously I am missing the concept.
I thought there was an address I could use to submit to a site to receive my podcast in RSS fashion.

Re: Podcasting Suite, Beta 3, released
I'll send you a PM with an example... My guess is that your module isn't visible. Did you publish it into a location that your template doesn't support? E.g., my template doesn't support the 'bottom' position.
