Actually I had no clue whatsoever about that. But thanks for the heads up.
Will you maybe fix an "autoupdate" alternative to your most eeeeeeeexelnt service?

that is taken cared of in joomla 1.1JohanLM wrote: Actually I had no clue whatsoever about that. But thanks for the heads up.

the ftp auto update is a core function as been discussed with the core dev's of J!
so this service is plainly a temporary solution for a quickie install.
you may also check the other thread regarding the auto migration.
however we BOTH stopped FURTHER DEVELOPMENT of this service... only updating it to stability releases for the joomla 1.0.x series.
no further plans yet of taking it in a next level to have an auto installer as well with Joomla 1.1.x series though.
will just be a matter of further request from the community.

2. my user and pass for my site is more than 6 chars which the installer only supports upto 6...
well thats about it. hope i can figure out what to do.. is my host not supported with the current project?
oh, and hope you guys keep updating.. im really eager to try this 7 seconds.. Keep up the good work...
edit:
oh, just wanted to say i found a CP Theme not located on the link though. but i assume its my Cpanel theme. named "Silver".

I'm a Joomla newbie and I'm curious why you did this. from a business point of view I as a business user would be willing to spend $10-20 each time I used your service or an annual subscription as it would save a ton of time. perhaps if you offered it like this you could make it an essential web service. that way you could offer options like additional packages, auto updates etc that could installed and you could be the focal point for Joomla installations. component developers could come to you as you would offer a good entry point into a lot of installations.
I think that this could be a real opportunity for someone and I'm surprised nobody has jumped on the bandwagon because its such an obvious need. we use Plesk and I think a lot of people do so it would be good to offer support for that too.
thank you,
Kurt

Re: Joomla 7 Seconds Automatic INSTALLATION. FREE: Automatic Web INSTALLER Scrip
hi @kurtcms!
thanks for the insight.
we have been around the joomla community for a while.
this is exactly the essense of "community". giving back what we can give back for FREE.
this auto installer is a child project actually of the auto migration of mambo to joomla that can be found here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,9238.0.html
the auto migration from mambo to joomla was at first a commercial project of us.
started from a client need to migrate a number of sites(dont ask how many sites were migrate, there's a LOT ) after we have migrated their sites we then saw the possibility why not make this auto installer as well.
so we did specifically for the purpose of non-commercial and free service to the community.
also the auto migration service in the thread above given was given back to the community as a free service as well.
regarding about the commercialization of this auto installer, i doubt it will happen in the near future when our plates are full of projects at the same time we already have given this for free
as always with other community based projects, we would always appreciate if you can pitch in any support or donation either to the main joomla project located here: http://www.joomla.org/content/view/689/79/ or if you feel generous enough you can make a direct donation/support to us here.

thank you for the followup. I like the idea of giiving back to the community but the problem with everything being free all the time is that projects die because there is no financial incentive for you to continue it. what I was trying to say is that we are a business that doesn't mind paying modest prices for things that we can use in our business. installing and updating Joomla can be time consuming so if we had a way that we could just press a button and it all happened automatically I would be willing to pay for it. and I bet a lot of other folks would too. you could do it at low cost but with thousands of newbies coming onine all the time it would make it worth your while to continue to suppor it.
I'm disappointed that the project is dead and now I can't use it. that's when free software becomes expensive. I think the model that 3PD folks should adopt is basic functionality for free and then enhanced functionality and ongoing support for a small fee. then we get a taste and don't mind supporting you for this.
cheers,
Kurt

hi kurt thanks for the enlightenment! it clears it up.
if only a company will be willing to primarilly fund this up then we will reconsider plans.
however for now, its only you have taken the step up to point us into this direction.
yes i do agree with that style about one is free and the other is paid.

Re: Joomla 7 Seconds Automatic INSTALLATION. FREE: Automatic Web INSTALLER Script.
yes and I wish all 3PD's would adopt this philosophy. that would eliminate all of the buggy, unfinished and abandoned projects like this one. your project would be EXTREMELY valuable if you think about. a central place for web-based installation and updating of Joomla. you could link off the main joomla page and advertise yourself to newbies and you'd probably get a zillion customers. 10,000 people payying you $20 per year would buy a few lunches wouldn't it?guilliam wrote: hi kurt thanks for the enlightenment! it clears it up.

you could offer 1-2 installations per year for free. anybody that wants more than that pays a small annual subscription fee. I'd be first in line because we now have multiple customer sites and its a real pain to have to manually reinstall everytime. we would need it to work on plesk.
cheers,
Kurt

Re: Joomla 7 Seconds Automatic INSTALLATION. FREE: Automatic Web INSTALLER Scrip
Hello!
I'm looking so forward to use Joomla Auto Migration, but I don't get further than the first step (http://www.astang.com/joomla/automigrate)
I know that my information is correct. Also, I think i know what my problem is:
My adress for cp is http://solbergfotball.no/cp/
- ... so since the migaration couldn't log in, I tested it manually:
- after typing user and pass - what happends is that I'm being sent to another adress: http://83.143.81.118/psoft/servlet/psoft.hsphere.CP
- when i type in my username and password here, I can login.
What can i the do to do the Migration?

Re: Joomla 7 Seconds Automatic INSTALLATION. FREE: Automatic Web INSTALLER Scrip
The fields for Desired DB User and Pass only allow 7 spaces. However when I create a database my host(or whoever it is) puts a prefix on to them. Like for e.g Database username wanted as daire becomes daire_daire and Database name becomes daire_joomla.
Please Help!
Thanks.
