By the way guilliam . There is no indication which version of joomla you guys are installing It would be nice if were also included.....
the joomla.tar.gz doesnt indicate the version. Of course i can always check in the admin area but it would be nice if the user knows which version is being installed.  ;D ;D.

Hi

Very nice idea, thanks for your hard work
I have translated it to Polish and send you it as .zip file
I have one small suggestion could you change it to other panels like Plesk or Direct Admin, I think many users use other control panels than cPanel

Good day guys,

Wow! you knw what I mean :)

Let me address some issue.

1. The script does have an auto deletion of the tarball after installation, and we are  not sure whats causing it not to erase on some ocassion. Im also getting instanced where the tarball is deleted and sometimes not. We will try to look into this.

2. The heading of the page does says This program will automatically upload the "Joomla! 1.0.1". The heading would change every time new version is released. If new joomla releases are available, checkboxes will be added to choose which joomla version to install. Whether the current release or an old version.

3. Croatian, Polish, Greek, Danish and Arabic translation are received. Will be adding this later on.

4. An auto installation for all control panel will be nice, but right now we only have a server with cpanel on it, so theres no way for us to test other control panel. If someone would offer to lend a test server, would be greatly appreciated.

5. unwritable configuration.php - FIXED!

This project is to create a web based script that will be hosted in one server in which automatic installation of Joomla install files will be possible. This is to accommodate the most common dilemmas of Joomla newbies or aspiring Joomla End Users in downloading the Joomla release files in their local desktops and painstakingly uploading the files via FTP.

Aside from FULLY Automatic web upload of installation files, the program/script will also automatically create the Joomla mySQL DataBase. This will be done by simply filling into the installation info’s such as:
1. Domain (to  where the Joomla installation be made)
2. cPanel’s Username, Password & Theme

Joomla’s mySQL DataBase will be created simply by filling into the info’s like:

We are now looking into making the script installation as automatic as possible (as far as we could get). However, we could not go as far as configuration and deletion of installation is concern to give way of joomla's pre-installation check and GNU/GPL license agreement.

We will be placing other feasible request in our roadmap. Updates and announcements will still be posted in this thread and in our installation page ( http://joomla.astang.com ).

Yes we do own Astang Web Solutiions ( http://www.astang.com ) where the program is hosted. It does take up resources but right now I guess our server could still handle it :)

When I tried to use the Joomla Auto Web Installer Script at http://joomla.astang.com/autoinstall,
I get the following error. Yes, I did check (several times) to make sure I'm entering the right information.
I tried just "X" and "cPanel X v2.5.0" on the cPanel theme field and of course, checked and make sure the username/pass are correct.
Unfortunately, after several times trying it, I still get the following errors.

error 1!

Possible Error(s):
- invalid username/pass
- invalid cPanel theme

Is it just me? End-user problem? or something else? Has anybody experienced the same problem??

The cpanel theme field WAS case sensitive which could have caused the error. This has been fixed.

We would love to have this work on other control panel. But as mentioned earlier, our servers only have cPanel so theres no way for us to test the program on other control panel. If someone is willing to lend us a test server for testing then we will gladly appreciate it.

The test server will not host any of our script or process anything of some sort. The test server will just be a destination server to do test install of joomla for that particular control panel.

Oh i forgot about that. Maybe you guys can ask the core team what are all the  pre-installation checks and work a solution later. and about the licence how about having it like Fantastico where before you install it you have to click on a check box which says "I agree with the Terms and Conditions of this Software". So maybe before installation you guys could show the GNU/GPL license agreement. that might solve the issuse just a Idea.

I don't seem to have a control panel. Is it the control panel you use to log into to administer your sites or is it the control panel for the data base. Being on dial up this would really benefit me.

View of this tool from a total newbie (you see, I have this friend, and he's, well, a newbie, and he can't figure this out.  So I thought I would post this for him so that he wouldn't have to feel like he is totally incompetent to use this installer that is designed for complete noobs and incompetents.  I'm, uhhhhh, quoting from him here ;)).

Three comments:

1) The installer is fantastic for a newb
2) my cPanel (10.8.0-RELEASE-20) does not have the theme listed under general server information.  I figured out the theme was rvblue though by looking in my URL (...frontend/rvblue/index.html).
3) This is bad, but I have no idea how to get Joomla to install into my public_html folder using this tool.  I tried typing "public_html" into the "Desired Directory" line, but then Joomla installs into a subfolder called public_html that is located within my public_html folder.  I would like Joomla to be the default page when I pull up http://www.mysite.com .  I don't want to have to redirect from http://www.mysite.com/joomla or whatever.  I, er, I mean this guy also tried typing "/" into the line (I know, it says not to do it) and then it just directed "him" to "www.mysite.com//" to finish the install.  That's no good.  The installer works great (totally sets up MySQL, finishes the install, gets to frontend, etc) if I want to put Joomla any freaking place besides my public_html folder, heh.

Sorry for the newbieness, but I figure that if this installer is targeted toward newbs, you might appreciate the feedback (and I'd appreciate the help, heh).

Thanks!

yes translate the page and send it to [email protected] this is a TEMPORARY means of translating this. we will take the burden in copy pasting into our language file. this is the youngest project that we have so we were very overwhelmed with so many supports, rest assured next time we will release a language file in which our very supportinve translation teams will simply edit the text/words in between the quotes.

thank you for the translation support!

as mentioned by Rhee, this is very much a welcomed suggestion and its actually in our ROADMAP already. what we would like to ask the community and the members widely supporting this project is to LEND us a host that uses "control panel" ASIDE from cPanel so we can have our dev TESTING on those environments. anyone who feels GENEROUS enough pls send Rhee or guilliam, for your GENEROUSITY and send in the log-in details(url, username, password, etc)

the "control panel" that is mentioned is the cPanel(click on the link) this is required. you may have a different CWM(control and webhosting manager) like; Plesk, Helm,  etc,. .but currently this is not supported because of the reason we just pointed out to @Bookie. unfortunately if at all cost you have NON of this CWM's, that is something we cannot do about. HOWEVER, we will look on its possibility to have that if oyu dont have cpanel/CWM. question there is,.. how are you able to create a joomla datebase if you have none? do you use phpMYadmin directly without any CWM's? hmmmmnnn.. interesting..

currently. we play by the numbers(play since we dont have a verifiable statistics) of how many users; and uses what CWM(like cpanel, plesk, helm, etc..) and the availability of anyone wiling to lend us a non cpanel host. so we will pick from the most requested CWM we encounter to have the joomla web installer script run and pumpin!  ;)

INSTANT SUPPORT for you(ahihihihihi):

1. thank you in behalf of the team(Team Joomlancer PH). it surely gives a warmth in our hearts hearing that our aim is met.  :-*

2. were you able to install it using the "rvblue" theme? yup.. i agree the best way to find the theme is via the URL like the screenshot below and the encircled part. thank you for taking notice that some cPanel doesnt have that "general server information". we will add this in the upcoming FAQ that we will be releasing. please check the screenshots below:

Image
^^cPanel Theme "x"

Image
^^cPanel Theme "bluelagoon"

3. its not actually BAD per se, it is our precautionary measure that we intended to have it installed ONLY in a sub folder/directory and cant be installed in the WEBROOT. this is for the reason that; to avoid any files that be overwritten in the webroot(/public_html/). since you have mentioned this request/wishlist we will add it in our roadmap and will be released in the NEXT versions BUT that option will have a very BIG "USE THIS ON YOUR OWN RISK OF OVERWRITING ANY FILES" notice. ehehheehhee.

so to address you concern for now, you can install it in the subfolder and simply transfer the whole folder to the root manually via FTP or preferably via cpanel's FILE MANAGER(this is a lot MORE faster since its web based).

again,.. we greatly love to hear comments and further suggestions. much more on QUESTIONS,.. since form this thread we can formulate what are to be included in the F.A.Q.'s that we will be releasing soon.

@ALL Transaltion Teams who have submitted to translations:

it is of our greatest gratitude in the translation oyu have submitted. rest assured that next time around we will release a language file instead(like language.php) for easier Translation. Team Joomlancer Philippines fervently hope the same Translation Support that you have given will also be the same for the upcoming release of the:

^^already posted this project in the forge, just awaiting its admin approval to be listed.  ;)

Maraming Salamat!  Hindi ako Filipino, pero nakatira ako sa Quezon City noong 1993.  Maranoong akong magtagalog noon, ngayon, hindi ko kaya (kunti lang at terrible spelling as well)! I haven't used the language in years and it has gone to pot, but I still talk about the Philippines all the time to my wife - I loved my two years there.

Thank you truly for your help.  I was able to install it using the rvblue theme when I tried putting it in a joomla folder.  I will now try moving the files to the root as you suggested through cPanel and let you know.

Thanks,

Rhune

The screen shot that Guilliam did is very, very helpful for newbies like myself.
I tried it again, and here's the result...

db creation successful boppler_joomla
user creation successful boppler_joomla with password xxxxxx
adding user boppler_joomla to boppler_joomla db successful

Creating directory joomla!
Successfully uploaded joomla files!

Joomla Files Succesfully installed
You can now go to: http://www.boppler.com/joomla

when I clicked on the above link, it just gave me the plain directory.
I'm working with mr nice guy, (guilliam) as we speak and will keep you posted.

Thank you, Guilliam.  I moved the files like you suggested, and the install went perfectly to the root directory.

My cpanel template is rvblue, and your install worked perfectly (and by a complete noob no less!).  I'd fly the Filipino flag here if I could  :o

My cpanel template is rvblue, and your install worked perfectly (and by a complete noob no less!).  I'd fly the Filipino flag here if I could  :o

Thanks!
warmly welcome! so "rvblue" template is well supported. let us see that Filipino flag of yours.. ~winks~ just kidding..

having issues with  @chrisdelalee's cPanel theme, she's using "bluelagoon",.. a fix for this will come out shortly.. that why @chrisdelalee only leads to an untarred installation file.

keeping you posted.

I have tried just about every type of parameters for this and it fails every time.  I've validates my theme etc.  I've tried it with the different ports I get, many many things.

Just get Error 1 username/password or theme wrong.

since cPanel theme's varies from one host/server to another, AND in cases that the theme is not listed in the "General server information:"(please click on the link for visual reference) table in the cPanel console, we have added an FAQ(to be added to the official "Team Joomlancer PH - Joomla Auto Web Installer Script" FAQ's) on how to determine what or which cpanel theme you or your cPanel is using. Please check the following visual references below:

When you log-in to your cPanel check the url address bar in your favorite internet browser. you should see something similar to the following in the address bar:

Image
This image shows that the cPanel Theme your host is using: "x"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image
This image shows that the cPanel Theme your host is using: "bluelagoon"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This image shows that the cPanel Theme your host is using: "rvblue"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as mentioned, cPanel theme's varies from one host/server to another, at the present that you encounter an instance that when you use the "Team Joomlancer PH - Joomla Auto Web Installer Script" and the process ends up ONLY uploading the joomla.tar.gz and the files are NOT unzipped/untarred, the reason is that your cPanel theme is currently not supported. in such cases, please do report the non supported cPanel theme on this thread and we will add the theme to be supported by this Joomla Auto Web Installer Script.

"Just get Error 1 username/password or theme wrong." - this is commonly caused by the the cPanel Theme is incorrect. its less likely your username or password that is incorrect. we just replied to one of the most common QUESTION being encountered. its posted just right below your reply.

please let us know what transpires in your installation.

Re: Joomla Installation? go: "Team Joomlancer PH - Auto Web INSTALLER Script"

Post by shereyll » Thu Sep 29, 2005 8:00 am

I've tried this auto web instraller script and, Man! I can't help myself to say: "F**K, am I dreaming? Wake me up!"

It took me just about 20 seconds to install Joomla on my server. Yeah, that makes me angry. I'm supposed to hit the 7 second mark set by the Team Joomlancer Philippines, but I've got lagged behind because I forgot my password. Damn, I'm getting old.

But that's still way too fast compared to the old way of installing you know what. The fastest that I can get with the old way-- FTP, database creation and all -- is 10 mins. Oh, truly, you know what  is history.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say here is, This installer script is heaven sent! It's fast and it saves a lot of bandwidth. Thanks guys for this script!

Oh, I have a suggestion to those who've got a password/username and cpanel theme error. Firstly, make sure that your password and username is correct. Secondly, when you're writing your cpanel theme, don't forget to write the "x" along with the other letters and digits of the theme, and DON'T LEAVE ANY SPACE.
