Feedgator Now Compatable with Joomla 1.0.11

Post by booger » Tue Sep 26, 2006 4:38 pm

This is an updated version of FeedGator component that makes it compatable with Joomla! 1.0.11 and adds/changes features within the component.

Changes/Additions:
  • Can create a default author per feed.
  • Can publish to frontpage per feed.

I forgot about the cron aspect of the component when fixing it to work with register_globals off, but I have corrected that and eveything should work like it is supposed to.

I have also made a couple small changes.  Version is now 0.7.

See the first post for the link.

Hi, thank you very much for doing this, but looking for FeedGator I've found like 3 sites with the same component. Maybe a good idea could be to change the component name. Don't take it bad, but it took me a while to find the 0.7 version (0.4 didn't work well for me), so I'm sure that there are more people "lost" out there.

Anyway, I've installed FeedGator 0.7 on Joomla 1.0.11 but I have an issue with some feeds, I set the "Trim Intro (# chars):  400", but FeedGator shows the entire item, including the photos. And that's a nasty thing, sucking bandwith and hotlinking.

I just want to show a few lines (without photos) but some feeds seem to show all the stuff (pictures included).

So, is there any way to make FeedGator summarize and/or trim those feeds?

Regards,

PHP Version 4.4.4
MySQL 4.0.25
Register Globals: OFF

I will check into this.  Thank you for making me aware of the problem.

There are a few of us that will actually be further enhancing this project and we are in the process of forking it.

There is not module.

This component actually just imports any feeds that you specify into the 'Section' and 'Catagory' that you select when setting up the feed.  From there it is either on the frontpage of your site or you have to create a link to that specific Section or Catagory.

I just noticed... I can't save the configuration settings... with either version...

All my other com's can save.
Anybody know why?

Thanks,
Bob

Update:
I figured it out... Here is the deal...
When I uninstalled the "older" version it didn't delete the tables.
So when I installed the newer version it wouldn't update the db.
So I when I reinstalled the older version it still had the lock or whatever it did to the tables.
So I uninstalled feedgator, then dropped the two tables manually, then reinstalled.
Now it will save...

Now if I could get it to work with Open-sef I would be a happy camper...

I currently have Open-sef installed and have had no problems with it.

What problems are you having?

Also note that the original developer of the component has appeared back on the scene and plans to continue development of the component.  With that said, with the next release (from the original developer) feedgator will be removed from my site so as not to confuse anyone.

After reading that post, I must agree that there should not be anything in FeedGator to cause the problem, it must be some type of setting in OpenSEF that is causing the problem.  I have both installed on my site and do not have a problem.

Not sure if this will help but can you post your configuration settings of OpenSEF.  Not all of them just the setting listed from the following sections:

SEF and Features

Maybe there is something that is set different on yours that could be causing the problem and I can compare yours to mine.

Well I have posted any differences compared to mine in a different color.  The ones in red, I would think, have more to do with what could be, if any, the problem over the ones in blue.

I forgot to type in the "Remove Characters:" they were what you had.

Anyway close... but still no cigar...

Blog doesn't work...
When I click on "Forex" there should be 4 categories
And "Gettting started" when you cliick on to "articles" just refreshes the page.

see for your self...

After playing with it for a few more hours I think I see what the problem is...

Any feeds from
http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/business
make the rewriter choke.
I'll get this on first time with a 404 error:

http://funtotrade.com/content/view/162/32/

Then after hitting the back button I get this:

http://funtotrade.com/Business_News/Yah ... ___AP.html

So I tried playing with the settings (like delete _____AP with _ ) and it didn't make any difference.

This feed works fine..
http://www.gftforex.com/rss/recap.asp

But it doesn't have the (reuters) or (ap) in parenthesis after the titles.

What do you think?

Since the original author seems to have dissapeared again is there any news of a fork being resurrected?

I gave up on doing anything since the original author came back on the scene.  However if he has disappeared again, maybe it is time to start thinking about moving forward from where we left off.

I am currently involved in some other projects at the moment so I will not be starting anytime soon to say the least.

does anyone know how to get around this limitation if the host doesnt open fsockopen ?

Try changing the Verbose Trackback link to "no" in the Config Content tab, and the Trackback link text to something like "Read more at: LINK"
