The word "home" appears on the frontpage just BELOW the breadcrumbs position. It is not breadcrumbs nor is it an article title.
Solution: go to menu manager, main menu (or where ever your default page is), home tab (presumably). The go to "page display options" on the right and check "no" (show page heading).

Hats off to you, if i did not stumble upon this post, it would have been a dive into HTML and PHP code with firebug!!!

Hello there I'm using Joomla 2.5.9 and by default the Show Page Heading is set to No.

Still the Home tab shows up. I unpublished the rest of the default menu items and I can't seem to find the answer.
