'There was an error uploading this file to the server'

Joomla 'Version 1.5.23'.

Recently took over from someone. Only know the basics. Wanted to change the template because it looked pretty bad so I searched the net, downloaded a template (in ZIP form) and uploaded it and installed them successfully however I tried again with another template and it said "'There was an error uploading this file to the server'".

I did a bit of research on this but it was all too confusing. Stuff about php something? I can't find the 'change max size' thing anywhere.

PLEASE excuse my ignorance! I'd appreciate any help you can offer me!

I am a super administrator however the person before me was the first super admin (don't know if that makes a difference).
