Make column 100% & background 100%

I have a template I have edited quite a bit but there is one element I am stuck on.

The left hand column is pink and I need to make it stretch the full length of the page, here is the column on a page that is same length:

and on a page which is far longer:

I have tryed to solve using firebug but to no avail!


Anyone have an idea?
