Format of page display

Post by gracieH » Thu May 19, 2011 7:38 pm

On my Joomla site, I have a menu item that is a section name, and when clicked, it displays all the categories in that section. Then I click on a category and see the list of articles in that category. I then click an article to read the full text. Very standard.

I'm not happy with the simple list display of the articles and all the click levels. I'd like to display all of the categories on a single page, with articles listed under each (picture attached). Is there a way to change the page format, or is there a template that provides a more robust display of section/category items? I'm thinking I may need a custom template? I can't imagine I'm the first person to have this problem.

I looked at catalog entries, which might work, but the articles would need to be put in as products, and the poses lots of issues with my editors. Any other ideas?

Use the K2 component from joomlaworks.gr but you can do this with the Category Blog Display as well just edit the settings of the menu item and check waht suits you best

Nice videos! I'm planning my first trip to Peru next year and I can't wait!

I've been thinking of K2, I may have to take a look at that. I am unable to make the look in my attachment with a bolg display. These articles do not have intro text, so all of the articles display together instead of the title only.

I downloaded a great module called ArtCats and I'm getting closer. I was hoping to avoid K2 since my site is already a bit slow and I have been trying to limit the number of components and modules.

Do you have a testing link so I could have a closer look what you are doing?

I forgot to tell you where to look. If you hover on "Library", "Browse by System" and then click on "Loansoft". That will display the page where I am showing multiple categories and all articles for each category.

So you have the Loansoft Section and the categories are the bold titles and inside the articles, what is it that you need exactly? What would you like to achieve visually?

Yes, that's what I need and visually that works. I used ArtCats module to do that but the problem is that when I click an article it opens with all the boxes still at the top, so it's pushed way down the page. It's close, but will not work that way. I need the article level to open in a blank content area. Any ideas?

I clicked into Access and Navigation and the image is what shows, so do you want to get rid of this part ? either way could point, you know sometimes an image is worth a thousand words...

No, sorry, that's the article. The behavior right now appears that it's working, but it really isn't. Look at the bread crumb when you're in an article. It's using invalid menu items and the results are unpredictable. For example, if Loansoft is the only menu option, it displays the article at the bottom of the (category) module listings. It's not working, but I"m looking for something that will produce the same results with a breadcrumb in tact.

It is not very clear to me what is the problem(you know the right content), it looks like the breadcrumbs are showing Is test2 messing everything up, check the item alias that is not duplicated hope this helps since this is what Joomla looks for.

Good luck
