creating specific pages within a custom template

Post by walko22 » Thu Dec 15, 2011 11:28 pm

Hello all,

I have created a custom template for Joomla 1.5. I made a top navigation menu with links to spcific pages, such as: home, about me, contact, etc. I would like to link those pages to a page/article that I have created from the backend (e.g. hard-code it directly to the custom template.), but I'm not sure if this would be the best way to do this, or even how to do it....

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction or offer some advice?

Why not just use the Joomla menu module?

First, I'm fairly new to templating Joomla. Second, not quite sure how I would incorporate my top navigation styles ( with rollover images) into a menu module.

I'll try to find more on modules and customization...

Thank you float-right for your suggestion.

Quite a few image menus out there

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... enus/10372
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... menus/3636
or accordian style

That way you could just have a single template and change your pages via the administrator and menu manager.

If you really want to hard code the links to your template, you could enable SEF urls on your Joomla site, and link your menu items to your sections. So for example, assuming you name them the same, create the articles Home, About Me, etc.; and link your template menu items to /home, /about-me, or http://yoursite.com/home, http://yoursite.com/about-me, and so on.

If you don't want to use SEF urls, you'd have to create the articles and then copy the actual (longer) article url, and link each menu item to that.

I hope I was able to explain myself.

thank you for the replies! I think I will enable the short url's and give that a go... I will let everyone know what happens.
