Can I use my own image as a site background? Or are there ONLY default templates?

Yes, you can create your own template and have any background you want. Make sure that the templates you create are Joomla! compatible.

Ok I'll check'em out but I want to know maybe there are some good template editing extensions that you could suggest for the same task?

Yeah well I tried to start from nothing by reviewing to your links and came to a conclusion that I can only create a basic template that only displays site's title.
Creating the whole template would take me weeks cuz I am a total beginner. I guess I will just try to modify the ja_purity template. And I was wondering does anyone know which lines are responsible of the image seen at the top?

Is anyone familiar with the template ja_purity?
