Site: http://www.novusluna.com

Displays correctly in Firefox, Chrome, IE8. Latest IE9 has issues displaying the site correctly. Anyone know an easy fix, or is it time for a new theme?

Thanks!

If the other browsers work properly then the bug is in IE9

Joomla: 1.5.23
Mootools: Control 0.1 / Upgrade 1.2.5

With Firefox: http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7121/nlrfirefox.jpg
With IE9: http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/8096/nlrie9.jpg

I've tried using just Mootools control with upgrade disabled. Tried just the Upgrade with no control. In the Mootools Control I've tried all possible combinations between Disabled mootools.js, Disabled caption.js and Change mootools.js.

Playing with Mootools settings changes the site in Firefox and Chrome but has no effect on IE9. I really hate to lose the template because our group feels that it fits 'who we are'. But I'll keep playing with it. I have it saved, so if I completely break everything I can at least restore it lol.

Thanks :)

Nope, no need to install mootools.

Just try site with IE8 and report back if it works. Search on t'net and look for "multiple IEs". This is a download for Windows PCs. An IE upgrade removes previous version. After an IE upgrade you can use this to reinstall all previous versions of IE for test purposes.

The living room PC is running IE8. The website works as intended with IE8.

It's a shame that Explorer 9 came out. lol. Bummer that I have to make drastic changes because one browser doesn't display the page correctly. But almost all visitors to my site use Explorer.

Yes, but how many use IE9? Go and have a look at the statistics on your site and in the world in general.

Now you know what doesn't work, you can start to determine why.

There is an issue with mootools (that is part of core Joomla) that IE9 does not support. This will have to be addressed by someone, somewhere as it could mean the death of all older Joomla sites. Luckily a large majority of users use proper browsers like Firefox.

I personally hate IE, Microsoft &c but that is another story.

You are right. Less than 1 percent of traffic is using Msie 9.0. And most of it is me refreshing like a mad man :)

I'll relax and let things be. And hopefully a fix will present itself in the near future.

Thanks for the help beededea :)

There are a couple of plugins/modules that pop up a windows and tell IE users to use a proper browser. You could try that!

Fixed!

I removed line by line till i found what was causing the problem.
<script type="text/javascript" src="templates/<?php echo $this->template ?>/js/cufon-yui.js"></script>

Did a google search and found that cufon-yui.js is not IE9 compatible. And their new beta one is :)
Edited the cufon-yui.js with the new code found here: http://cufon.shoqolate.com/js/cufon-yui.js?v=1.09i

All is working now!
Thanks

The website looks fine to me in IE9 and FF8. Ask your clients to delete their temporary internet files.

This posting and the next one belong to a different subject as you can see in the subject title. I do not know how they managed to sneak in.

My client is a network manager.... who is claiming that its happening on two different HP laptops (but is ok with FF etc)

I already suggested he clears his cache, and in the light of your response have emailed him with that advice again?

Thanks for the reply

Would this explain why one user is getting a problem with the site on two laptops running IE9 - but that tests on several other people using IE9 have shown no issues? Surely if this is an issue then it would occur on all people running IE9

@maxelcat - start to find out what the difference is in the machine, network or a/v configuration of the machines that are failing. Also, you haven't stated what the problem is...

No - you're right!

I have a site running 1.5.23 that has been live for about 18-24 months with no issues. recetnly our client has stated that it isn't working on IE9 - please see screen shot. I have tested it on about 4 different pcs running IE9 including the same os as the client. No one reports any issues. The client (a network manager) has reported the issue on "two identical HP proBook 4520s running IE9 and Windows 7" and pointed me at this thread.

however, I would have thought it if this was the issue then it would appear on all IE9s since they area running the exact same code - or could it be a little IE9 bug that has been sorted/introduced in later/earlier versions of IE9

The live site is at http://www.coinstreet.org

I would appreciate any comments please

OK, well, back to my email, find out what the difference is on those machines with the issue and what is common with the two failing... It might be the same a/v tool for instance or a later version of the browser or o/s. If you can replicate the same configuration elsewhere and the problem moves then you have found the problem. It might, for instance, be all machines running the same anti-malware tool on IE9 on Windows 7.

thanks for your reply. Can i clarify - does the fact that its working on some IE9s and not on others mean that its not the mootools issue described above - we have dicovered that the offening PCs are running exact same IE9 version that I am.

thanks

It could be anything until proven. That is the point of diagnosis. Good luck and report back.

Hi

Am no further forward with this. After searching around on the forum I thought it might be something to do with fckeditor, which the site uses, so I have uninstalled it. Still the same.

Am running out of ideas!

Please - anyone got any more suggestions?

We are still waiting for your diagnosis on the common elements on the machines failing and the differences between those working.

Got there. Turns out to be an issue with some IE9s (not versions - just on some computers) and the Helvetica font. Once helvetica was removed from either the css or the computer itself then the site was fine. Weird - why identical versions of IE9, both on win7, but obviously on different machines - one failed, one didn't

if you want you can read more about it on my blog - but thanks for your help http://www.ee-web.co.uk/blog/?p=382#more-382

I checked on my Windows 7 Ultimate installation and the Helvetica font is not installed. I never deinstalled it either. :geek:

It had to be something like that and your analysis found it in the end.

Windows and Internet Explorer are a minefield generally. It is as if Microsoft, not having invented or not having control of the internet want to make it a bad experience for all and sundry. They introduce new problems consistently. I do hope that the introduction of IE9 on only Windows 7+ systems proves to be another nail in the coffin for Internet Explorer.

Yes, IE9 doesn't feel like that much of a step forward to me. I have had to reinstall it once, and its full of features that to me are a waste of time when it could be more solid. Oh well! (was working for a friend yesterday - still using IE6!!!!)

Look at this link, it describes your problem perfectly. If I were you I would become a preacher like me, preaching the word to stop using Internet Explorer. Tell everyone.

I'm running v 1.5.22 on template number 26971 from a popular template provider. I had the same issue with menu titles not appearing in IE9. They worked fine in FF, Safari etc. The fix for me was the suggestion above. Replacing cufon-yui.js with the file in the link. In my case the path was /templates/theme416/scripts

THANK YOU!

Edited the cufon-yui.js with the new code found here: http://cufon.shoqolate.com/js/cufon-yui.js?v=1.09i
