Classified ads for 1.5

Post by zonkd » Wed Aug 20, 2014 5:34 pm

I'd like to add a classified ads extension to SchoolLaners.org which is a small neighbourhood site.
All the ads will be for free.
The site is a 1.5 job - I've not found any upgrading available for it.
Anyone know and recommend a very basic classified ads extension, please?

Hey,

There's actually quite a number of extensions available (both free and paid). You can find them at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... sified-ads . However, I am not really sure if 1.5 is still supported though. Some of them still does but why not go ahead with upgrading to 3.3 directly? You will get to kill two birds with 1 stone :p

Joomla has a built in Banner system which you may be able to use.

Many thanks, imarklee, and of course I went through those extensions. Some claim that there's a basic 1.5 package in the download, but the server doesn't recognise it.

And that's one of two reasons why I don't upgrade the site to 2.5 or 3. The server I 've used for years doesn't upgrade to allow for joomlas over (I think) 2.0.

I don't think this template would work in anything above 1.5.

Otherwise, you are absolutely right. Thanks very much, imarklee, and good wishes to you in KL. Remember your exciting city well.

That's new for me, dpacadmin, thank you, and it is a surprise that for the years I have known Joomla, I've never used that arrangement.
I tried it a few times with banners that were allegedly in the package. I don't know that any actually appeared. But aggravatingly, it's returned the line on the home page that reads 'Welcome to SchoolLaners dot org'
Crazy, I know, but it took me ages to find a way to get rid of it. I presume now that it must be connected in some way to banners - though I thought I had unpublished them all.
Of the smallads, what I might do is to plonk them into tables on pages. I don't suppose there will ever be many.
Very interesting about the banners, dpacadmin, and thank you.

Found what caused the unwanted message to appear, thanks, dpacadmin. Learned quite a lot from your suggestion, and gratefully. Cheers.
