two module problems...search and login

Help please

I am new to joomla and have been poking around i now have my teplate set up with the images i need but I am unable to get the search components to show. Is there some parameter smewhere? They are registered and turned on.

Then a more technical question for the login module. Is it possible to change the button names from login and logout to something else.
