Joomla! 1.5.7 extensions install error on PCLOS

Hi all,
I've installed XAMPP (http://www.apachefriends.org/it/xampp.html) and Joomla! 1.5.7 (http://www.joomla.it/)
on my PCLinuxOS 2007 (upgraded) following the instructions of the sites and the instructions of
PCLOS Magazine Feb.2008, "Xampp and Joomla! Content Management System by Trev".
Everything seems working fine except the installation of extensions. Joomla! gives a message like this:
"there were some errors loading file on server" and it doesn't install any.

I made writable folders (# chmod 777 -R /opt) but it didn't help.

I also tried with Mandriva 2008, Kubuntu 8.04, SimplyMepis, OpenSuSE 10. It doesn't work.

I also tried with Ubuntu 8.04 and IT WORKS! (all I need is make writable folders).

I need it works with my PCLInuxOS. Can somebody help me please?

I made the folder writable also and the extension become installable on OpenSUSE 11/Joomla. I wonder if that will cause security leaking issue. I got no final answer regarding this question.

My friendly advice is plz use windows xp(service pack 3) instead of using linux. I am sorry to say this.

I'm sorry to hear such answer. It's for the server. No XP sp3 used for server.

If have to, (linux really that trouble to handle security), then windows 2003 server.
