Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
K2: caption apears 3 times...why?
I'm using joomla 1.5.2 and K2 v2.4.1(http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ction/8061)
In regular joomla article caption works fine but when I use in k2 type of article I get printed three times the same caption.
Here is some html code to analyse:
<div class="itemFullText">
<p><span class="easy_img_caption" style="display:inline-block;line-height:0.5;vertical-align:top;background-color:#F2F2F2;text-align:left;width:320px;float:left;margin: 5px;">
<span class="easy_img_caption_inner" style="display:inline-block;line-height:normal;color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-weight:normal;font-style:italic;padding:4px 8px;margin:0px;">caption from Alt text</span>
<span class="easy_img_caption" style="display:inline-block;line-height:0.5;vertical-align:top;background-color:#F2F2F2;text-align:left;width:320px;margin:0;">
<span class="easy_img_caption_inner" style="display:inline-block;line-height:normal;color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-weight:normal;font-style:italic;padding:4px 8px;margin:0px;">caption from Alt text</span>
<span class="easy_img_caption" style="display:inline-block;line-height:0.5;vertical-align:top;background-color:#F2F2F2;text-align:left;width:320px;margin:0;">
<span class="easy_img_caption_inner" style="display:inline-block;line-height:normal;color:#000000;font-size:8pt;font-weight:normal;font-style:italic;padding:4px 8px;margin:0px;">caption from Alt text</span>
<img style=" margin:0;" title="tytuł zdjecia" alt="caption from Alt text" src="/ecosilesia/images/stories/bloczek.jpg" width="300" height="225" />
</span></span></span>
</div>
I tried to modify a easyimagecaption.php code but still get double times printed caption on my page.
Any hint what to modify in parameters maybe -(I'm using default set of params).
Thanks for any help

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Sorry for the late reply.
Over the past years I've received several different reports about problems with using EasyImageCaption (EIC) and K2. Please notice that EIC is not designed to work with K2 articles but with regular Joomla articles only.
Nevertheless, since K2 article images are affected by EIC as well, I have tried to get into these problems, although I'm usually not using K2 myself. I've just installed K2 again in a testing environment, and the result was as always: I created a K2 category and a K2 item (with image) - and EIC works fine with it...
So I don't know where exactly the problem lies. Maybe it has to do with special K2 settings or (more likely) with other "interfering" plugins. K2 is a very complex component, what makes it even more difficult to locate possible problems.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Hey Thomas,
i've just found EasyImageCaption and i'm really taken with this plugin.
But: When i was trying to use your plugin there was a problem with the style. When I activate the plugin (properties: use the alternative text, css of EIC) the pictures on my page (all set with percentage) were resized on a very small level.
Do you have a guess should be the problem?
Best Regards,
djdrum

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
This is a great plugin, but I'm having one issue:
The backend parameters for hiding or showing captions for selected categories does not work. When I chose to show only the following ..." I get no captions. When I choose "Show all except the following ..." I get captions no matter what I enter in the section/category area.
Any resolution to this? It makes the plugin unusable for my site. Example: http://megamanweekend.com/tree/shurb-li ... ist-a.html

@djdrum:
Sorry for not answering earlier. It's been a while since I visited the forum. Unfortunately EasyImageCaption does not work for images with % widths. I once tried to implement this, but experienced too many problems. Sorry.
@sppunk:
I just tested this and it seems to work for me. Be sure to enter the category's id, not the category's name. If that is not the problem, please tell me your exact parameter settings. Do you have excluded only categories, only sections, or both?

Removing the standard joomla captions
Hi,
I got a problem not showing the standard Joomla captions. In the plugin I learned that I need to remove the link to caption.js in the index.php, but which index.php-file? I cannot find any reference to caption.js in the head folder, neither in the template folder.
Can someone help me?
With kind regards,
- Johan.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
@johstrom:
The caption.js file is linked automatically by Joomla. Therefor you will not find it in any index.php and cannot remove it just by deleting a line.
Have a look at the bottom of this page: http://joomla.roemer-online.org/how_to_ ... patibility. There you'll find the code to remove the caption.js link from your site. Just insert that code into your template's index.php.
EDIT:
With the release of the 1.6+ version of EasyImageCaption, I have changed my website. Now you'll find the code here: http://joomla.roemer-online.org/howto.php#caption_js

Okay, people are asking for a 1.6 version frequently, so I have no choice but to deliver it.
Expect EasyImageCaption for Joomla 1.6/1.7 within the next few days...

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
You guys wanted it, you guys get it:
EasyImageCaption for Joomla 1.6/1.7 has just been released:
http://joomla.roemer-online.org
There are 2 versions available for downloading. The 1.5 version and the 1.6+ version that should run on both Joomla 1.6 and 1.7. The version number (the same for both versions) is still 0.51, because nothing else has changed. So for all of you who still need the 1.5 version, there is no need for an update. The 1.6/1.7 version makes use of Joomla's new updating feature by the way (see How-to page).
I have no "real" Joomla 1.6+ site running myself yet, so I just tested the plugin on fresh installations of Joomla 1.6 and 1.7. Please post any problems that I might have missed, or send me an e-mail through the website.
I hope it works, and I hope you like it.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
This plugin keeps publishing all the captions to the right of the image! I'm still using the default settings except I turned off internal styling for the screen capture. Anyway, this plugin also throws off the padding/margins of my content.
Anyway, Im ready to uninstall and get rid of it but now my regular captions won't show...even when I uninstalled, captions wont show without this plugin anymore!
Thanks for your time, I desperately need a solution.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
I've installed the version for Joomla 1.7.2. I previously had it working fine with a Joomla 1.5.x site. It installed fine and I set the parameters for the plugin and enabled it but I'm not getting any captions. I checked the settings to my 1.5 site and theya re the same and the captions work there but are not working on the 1.7.2 site. The only 3rd party extension I have is installed is the JCE Editor which I have on the 1.5 site too. Any ideas?
Update: It seems the items are not showing when the article is set as a "Featured" article on the frontpage. If you click the link for the article and it opens to the whole article the captions are showing.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Is there any way to have captions showing on top of the image when the cursor hover on the image (then it should disappear when the cursor is off the image).
I mean something like this (hover on images): http://demo.artetics.com/index.php?opti ... Itemid=153
Thank you for the attention and for this extension.

Go into the plug-in options and select what you need in the "Hide captions" entry (if you want to always show captions select "never").

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
I installed and activated the latest version (0.51) of the EasyImageCaption plugin with my Joomla 1.7.2 site.
However, I see no effect on my article pages. When I analyse the page with Firefox-Firebug, I just see the image tag without any container around it.
Images were inserted with the JCE editor.
Images have both Alt and Title tags.
I deactivated caption.js in my template's index.php file, as per instructions on the site.
Not being familiar with the internals of Joomla or the plugin, I do not know where to start looking for the cause of the problem.
Help is much appreciated.
Chris.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
After reading the previous post, I experimented with the settings.
I kept "Hide captions" to Never and changed "Apply plugin to introtext" to Yes.
Now the plugin seems to work.
Note however that the problem images were in normal articles, not "featured", and the article did not have defined introtext (i.e. no "Read more" separators).
Strange.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Another observation:
I need two images one above the other at the left of the article, with text flowing next to both images.
So I float:left the first image and float:left; clear:left the second image.
The result from EIC (seen with Firebug) for the second image is:
<span class="easy_img_caption" style=" ... ;float:left; ... >
<img ... clear:left; ... >
The clear:left; is not in the containing block.
The net result is that the two images appear one next to each other.
I set Copy image's classes to Yes, but that makes no difference (as expected).

EasyImageCaption plugin image resize problem
Hello,
I have problems when resizing images in the article editor. The Image Caption is not showed under the image but beside the image. If I don't resize the image in the editor the caption works fine.
It seems to be a problem with the added styles width an height. I have tried to activate "Copy image's classes" in the settings, but no results.
Thanks!
Michael

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Oh, what happened here? Didn't notice all the requests, sorry.
@ZimpDaddy, Mymind: It looks like you two may have the same problem. Can you show me a live example, so that I can have a look at the generated HTML? Or just send me that part of the code.
@b4pjoe: Did vampire666s solution help you? That actually should do the job.
@vampire666: I'm afraid you have to look for another extension to get this effect. That would be some javascript solution, I think. I'm not planning on doing something like this at the moment.
@straetch: I've just had another look at how Joomla uses its variables. Even if you do not use a "Read more" separator, Joomla only holds the article text in the "introtext" variable when showing it on the frontpage. So the behaviour sometimes may seem strange (as you said), but I hope you have it working just the way you wanted now.
Your second problem, the "clear" property, is in fact a bug. I just haven't thought of handling this property. So this is on my to-do-list.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Mymind sent me an e-mail with some detail. He is using the JCK editor which "causes" the problem. Well, actually it's a bug in EasyImageCaption that really causes the problem, but JCK reveals it.
It will be fixed in the next release of EasyImageCaption, whenever this will be published. Until then, if you have the same problem, please do the following:
- In the Joomla 1.5 version:
Open "plugins/content/easyimagecaption.php" and change lines 745-748 to the code below
- In the Joomla 1.6 version:
Open "plugins/content/easyimagecaption/easyimagecaption.php" and change lines 744-747 to the code below
That might solve ZimpDaddys problem as well.

Captions repeat using K2 and JCE
This is my problem:

If you see the second Image, the caption repeats. It does not happen when NOT using K2.
Can anyone help me out?

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it just plain won't work for me. I'm in Joomla 1.6.1 with PHP 5.2.14. EasyImageCaption is installed and enabled as a system Plug-in. In particular, I'm trying to get the captions to work site-wide and in EasyBlog component. Can someone help me trouble-shoot?
Thanks,

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Melissa,
Did you figure out why it is not working with EasyBlog? I am running Joomla 1.7.3 and EasyBlog 3.0.7.164. EasyImageCaption does work well in standard Joomla article and in EasyBlog frontpage view. But once I view the individual post I can no longer see the captions. Any suggestions? I have played with all of the settings for a while without success.
Example of it working on frontpage: http://bringinggoodnews.org/index.php/blog
Example of same blog entry with article view where captions don't work: http://bringinggoodnews.org/index.php/b ... d-in-kasur

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Hi Mirphi,
My installation of the plugin didn't work through the Joomla interface, so I had to do it manually on my server. The reason the plugin wasn't working was because I put it on the wrong place on my server. I installed it in my "system" folder (withing plugin folder) but it really needed to go in the "content" folder. Once I moved it to the right place, it worked just fine. I wish I could help with your issue, but I really don't have any advice on that. Good luck. I hope someone is able to help.

Re: EasyImageCaption plugin: Bugs and features
Is anyone using Easy Image Caption with the Smart Resizer plugin? Just wondering if there's some incompatibility, having two plugins both acting on images?
I have EIC working (and it takes the caption from the ALT tag), but if SmartResizer acts on the image, EIC appears to then ignore the image.
But why shouldn't EIC work on the resized image? The resizer is only resizing the image and wraps it in an <a> element:
Wouldn't EIC still catch the <img> tag and pull the caption from the alt tag? Any ideas why this isn't working? I have plugin order set so that EIC works after the resizer (that's for layout reasons).
As far as I can see, EIC is set to make captions in pretty much all circumstances:
Hide: Never
Intro: yes
Apply to all articles
Apply to all images
Thanks in advance for any help!
