I see Drupal is making a search integration with Lucene and Solr technologies from the Apache project. So I wonder which would be the best search system to use for Joomla in future?

http://acquia.com/products-services/acquia-search?x_lf_kt=2&_x_lf_kvid=4b82848a-918d-468d-b92b-5a022277879b

Or Sphinx integration http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=471&t=384684

What you think what would be the best for use with Joomla?

or Finder? http://jxtended.com/products/finder.html

anyone having experience with those?

Hi darb,

Will this sphinx component replaces the Joomla original search features(com_search)?
Their website says, this works like Google-like search, means it provides AUTO-SUGGEST features?
can you please give a brief idea?

No, it doesn't provide auto suggest feature. Google like search meant that search component support additional operators like quotes around words for Phrase Search, "-term" to find results which not contain "term" and so on.

If you need commercial support, or if you’d like Joomla Sphinx Search component customized for your needs, we can help.

I would make a proposal to the whole Joomla project to use Joomla Sphinx on joomla.org everywhere as their search engine. As it is now the JED search is not good at all and it could also be used on the large phpBB forum of Joomla, people well everywhere!

It would be good to contact the leadership team and make a proposal to implement Joomla Sphinx as the official search engine for the whole Joomla project..

Ask Mark Dexter to start with and make a short presentation of the solution.

datset,
It is still in beta and we would appreciate any feedback!

darb,
did your have a chance to propose Joomla Sphinx Search component into Joomla core?
Do your need something from us to pursue it?

Sorry did a small insert in a Google dev group before but I think you should register and present your idea there..

I think you can ask here to start with http://groups.google.com/group/joomla-dev-cms http://groups.google.com/group/joomla-dev-general

Best of luck bcs this would be a great idea for Joomla search really!
