Jomsocial - image file type not supported

Joomla 1.5.18
Jomsocial 1.8.5

I just uprgraded Jomsocial to 1.8.5 and now i have problem when I'm trying to upload photos. I get a message "Uploaded file type is not supported".
I'm looking all around the forums, both joomla and jomsocial, and I see that many have this problem but I didn't find the right answer for me...help?

edit: I need to say that i didn't have this problem on earlier version of jomsocial....

I am having the same poblem.... fresh install of Joomla 1.5.23 and fresh install of lates Jomsocial 2.2.2

Nothing will upload!
I hva checked everything and all folders are set correclty regarding permissions... GD is installed and ImageMagick is installed..... everything seems to work correctly if I use community builder when it comes to uploading profile pictures etc

beginning to suspec that Jomsocial simply only works for some people and that there is no real explanation to get it to work for people having problems.... they TRY but don' seem to really find a solution when asking support :-(

So i was hoping that maybe you found the solution?

Yes, it work now, but I can't help you because I don't know how I did it. It just happens. I think it's because of some 3rd party extensions on jomsocial or joomla...i don't know.
If you find an answer, please post it here.

THAT HELPED ME!!
I seems in my case that Jomsocial is NOT discovering which engine to use when it sets itself to "auto"

After that I even tryed using
imageengine=ImageMagick instead of imageengine=GD


I get no errors after that and pictures DO upload. Not sure if Jomsocial is actually now using ImageMagick, but it is what I entered after trying to enter GD.
No errors, and Images now upload :-)

I have it now and cant update easy the jomsocial, al lost is adjusted years ago.
Joomla 1.5 also.

imageengine=GD where was this put?
Finngu? That link goes now to joomla page with only login. No content
