How to Run Multiple instances of Phoca Gallery?

Dear Members,
it has been a long since i have posted to Joomla forums!

Anyways,

I have a website running with a phoca gallery with more than 700 categories and 70,000 images.
the large number of categories is making the back-end and thumbnail creation of the images very slow
which is affecting the website performance.

deleting the images/categories isn't an option!

so i thought that installing/running a new version of phoca gallery will solve the problem as the old gallery will be used as archive.

did anyone has attempted to do such a solution?
