Component - Need to add categories for different lists

I am unable to select categories within the component. I would like to add the component as a menu item and then select a certain category for that menu item. Then when adding individual animals I would be able to select the category that those go under.

Has anyone used this component and gotten that to work?

Anyone know what something like this entails? Really need this soon. Or here is another idea. If you can install the same component multiple times. Really at most 3 different variations. So what I could do is rename the component. Then when the user wants to add something to one category really would be editing different components and they would be all separate from each other.
