vtem news stack module encoding problem

Hey guys im using the vtem news stack module but because my articles are in greek at the end of each article description shown in the module there are weird characters shown.

I am sure its something with encoding and something to do with the following code. but im not a programmer could anyone help me out?

$news_textt = JString::substr($str, 0, $news_limit);

$news_textt .= "...";


I have also attached a picture displaying the problem

You could post this issue on there forum. As they have coded the module, they could help you better
