mod_slideshow 3 - terminating too few slides

my mod_slideshow 3 was working well for quite some time and then all of a sudden it stopped displaying the images. firebug give me this error
terminating too few slides :0 whereas the images are very well there. It has read permissions for everyone (644)

any thoughts why?

No slideshow on the home page. No errors on home page.

The path to your image files has changed or they have been deleted. Try deleting one of the slides from the slideshow settings and then add it again.
