Hi all,

I have a problem with JCE editor - it won't show in backend (I don't use frontend for editing, so I don't care for the frontend).

I've moved my site from local PC (where everything was fine) to the web, and it stopped working.
Then I've uninstalled the JCE, downloaded the new version and installed it, but no change.
JCE plugin is enabled, but still the JCE is not working.

I can only use "No editor" and "TinyMCE".

Can anyone help me please?

Thank you in advance!

P.S. My Joomla! version is 1.5.23

How confident are you in your site move? Sometimes I have what appears to be a perfect FTP move and .sql import, but 1 or both have suffered some corruption in transfer. Potentially you might need to start again (particularly if your local version is good). Let us know how you get on with this.

Because of lots of files I've compressed the public—html folder and uploaded the zip file and uncompressed the zip on the server over the cPanel and extract files option in the file browser of the cPanel.
I have exported the mysql database from pc and imported the tabels in the newly created database on the web so I could get no errors in the process.
The difference is in the configuratio.php file because of the users and databese names on the web an locally are not the same. Could some parameters in configuration.php be the reason of the problem?

If you have another Joomla database and accidentally put those details in the configuration.php file(instead of the new one) then that could be the reason.

Try using Akeeba to move the site it will set the new paths et al. if you ask it to.

There is the log and temp path that must be adjusted in configuration.php.

I have checked the configuration.php but there's nothing that could be wrong there. Database name and username and the paths are adjusted for the new server.
E-mail sending works, too - everything is just great except the editor is missing :-(

What version of JCE? I have not been able to make JCE 2.0 work on J1.5 either. Had to revert back to 1.5.7.

I have installed the version 2.0.15 because version 1.5.75 stopped working after the site move.
I tried to reinstall 1.5.75 few times, but without success - that's why I downloaded the version 2.
I don't like things that there is no logical explanation for :-(

Try going to components, JCE , at the bottom it should tell about the database tables if they are ok or not, had this problem once.

I have just uninstalled again version 2, installed version 1.5.7.5, went to the Component administration, saved the settings (I just changed the template of the JCE editor), went to the Global configuration and set the editor to JCE and it is working now!

As I just said - I DON'T LIKE the things that are happening without any reason and for 21 year with computers, I saw a lot of strange things ... >:(

Anyway - thank you all for your replies!

Kind regards

When you have spent 30 years with computers then you will probably see more strange things. Things don't just happen without a reason ... usually they appear to because we are not looking in the right place for the error.

I recently installed latest version of JCE editor (Joomla 1.5.23) and am also having problems with toggle between WYSIWYG/html, no menu visible and can't imbed images from media manager. Is an older version of JCE still available (I was running a very old version of JCE and unfortunately uninstalled it previous to installing new version so don't have anything to fall back on). I saw from previous posts that some had reverted back to an older version. In the meantime I've installed JoomlaCK editor but prefer JCE as I like their plugins. Posted on the JCE forum also but haven't got any resolution yet. Thanks for any input

Update: just found an old version of JCE (1.5.2) and the associated plugins so can convert back to this if necessary until things get resolved

BariL, like I said - I use version 1.5.7.5 and it works fine. I just had the up mentioned issue today again on other server, and did the same - uninstall, install AND LOGOUT and back IN.
There was no change until I didn't logged out and logged in again :-S - like it's an operating system and it needs restart :-)))

You can google this version, but if you still get problems to find it feel free to contact me - we will find the solution for you to get it.

I've the same problem here.

The source of the problem is that the latest version of JCE needs a server with PHP5.2 or higher.

I think it is not a good practice that the web hosting provider has to make changes to get a Joomla extension running. Even if it is a free extension.

And how are they going to know every possible errors if people don't tell them ?

It's just as easy to contact the developer as it it is state an opinion of what good practice is.

Joomla 1.5.3 - after trying to update JCE from 1.xxx to 2.xxxx - update failed.
Now I cannot log in to admin.
I get 500 internal server error.
Tried to alter config.php to say 'tinymce' instead of 'jce' - no change.

How can I disable the JCE component - if I cannot logi nto admin.
what must I do to get logged in on the admin back end?

Update Joomla to 1.5.26. You version is ancient and is not compatible with php 5.3.

I don't think the JCE has anything to do with your login issues.
Fix your login issue first, then rollback JCE to version 1.5.7

sorry meant to say Joomla! version 1.5.23
current version of PHP is 5.2
It all worked fine before the failed update of JCE.

How can I update joomla without using the admin back end?
Any help gratefully received as client is waiting..........

You don't use the backend for updating Joomla 1.5.
Get the 1.5.0-1.5.26 update package. Unzip and upload to your site with ftp.

What did you do to fix this?

I get the following error if I want to link or insert anything in an article:

SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected non-whitespace character after JSON data

I have Jooomla 1.5.26 and JCE 2.0.20

One of the older version did work, I think it was 1.5.75 or something, but I can not find it.

Seems I have to revert back to another Editor.

I have tried the developers form on their website but get a 404 error.

I updated joomla from v1.5.23 to v1.5.26 by overwriting all the old files with a FULL installation package.
Using FTP - I then removed all references to JCE in the config.php - including deleting the actual JCE component directory in the components rdirectory. and the removing the JCE plugin as well.
Then set tinyMCR as editor in the config.php file.
re-installed JCE 2.0.20 from scratch - now all works ok.

the JSON error may be because you have not enabled mootools, or your template may have a mootools confllct?

I am going to try the JCK editor - as I may have another issue that may be IE9 browser based that affects JCE article editing in the back end. A client keeps getting a blank page when opening article for editing - but when I log in as them on my PC and browser everything works ok.

Also I find the IE9 cache very "sticky" - I have to clear the cache regularly not just to see changes, but updates as well.

also make sure that "Enable Web Services " is on in the global configuration - system tab

I was only able to fix this problem by disabling all Editor plugins under Plugin Manager and enabling only JCE plugin. Make sure to select it from Global Config.

Well at you guys are making headway and was up till 3AM and I got nothing. Trying to implement J4Schema which stated that I need JCE editor for Joomla 2.5, OK downloaded it and activated it.
the Schema site Instructed to "you have to manually add the J4Schema button on JCE editor. To do that, you have to go in JCE Administration » Edit profile » Features tab and drag&drop the Google button."
So finally figured out I don't have JCE Administration under Components? Although J4Schema is there. So then I thought I had to download another extension - so I downloaded and published JCE Mediabox, still nothing? Then I disabled all the other editors and still didn't show .
I would happy if I could just see the JCE Administrator. My template came with K2 and ZenGrid could either of these block the Administrator from appearing under Components?

Thanks in Advance,
The Newbie
