Fantastic idea!  This will be very popular with the right GUI.  I can't wait to trial it!

I have to say great stuff.

After viewing all the lovely polite conservative entries, that are all pretty similar, this one jumps out of the mould.

Regardless of how close you are to finishing 11 out of 10 for creativity and having a really interesting vision and the guts to pursue it.

Also says there is more need for a designer than ever.  Just because someone can use Dreamweaver or Joomla! for that matter doesn't mean they can make a nice site hahaha. More options means more need of a sense of what to leave out.

My vote is for you.  :-*

You are to be congratulated and encouraged! This is the way to go. I hope this contest is just the start of this project. There is much potential here and it will likely take a great deal of time to fully develop. In a sense, you are creating a template builder and that will not be done quickly, but, if you can make it happen, it will be useful and used.

Cheers to you!
Amy :)

I think that now the template is more a RC / stable than a simple beta

I just find this and yes this looking very interesting. Hope you will win with this contribution in the end!  ;)

But seems also from comments that its good to have some good standard start up settings, showing a basic template design to start with. Good luck!

Better late than never... this is such a remarkable piece of work that I cannot close this page without first saying that this is in my view the most important result of the Template Contest. Although this template was never going to win, it points the way to the future and in some years time it will (hopefully) be recognised as a defining moment in Joomla templating history. I have recently been thinking about how to make a template that allows users such a lot of flexibility that they can change look&feel at will. This does that, and I can see now that my thoughts were not out of the box enough by far.

At the same time, I cannot say that it is a user friendly template at all, and the whole idea of extreme flexibility to my mind is to make it easy for users to do what they want. I am not entirely backwards when it comes to design, but I got quite put off by the number of options and the lack of clarity as to what some of the options do, and it seems easier to play with a few php and css files myself. To solve this problem of complexity the placing, sizing and styling of boxes should preferably be done with the help of Ajax technology. Drag & drop, stretch, right-click for options, and voilà! Of course that is expecting too much for now but this template has laid the foundation.

All in all, FreedomBlocks dares to show the direction towards the vision behind it, and I have no doubt that everyone will follow sooner or later.

I love this idea. Back when I first began to use Joomla, I assumed it was going to be like this. Without knowing it, I was imagining the next step.

I actually imagined it being even easier than this. I imagined a style similar to how the iGoogle site works when you can pick whatever widgets you wish and then drag and drop them anywhere on the page and it will still remain functional. Is that Ajax?

It  should be the next step.

As a point of interest, there already is a Drag&Drop your Modules extension (see http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,2783/Itemid,35/). Imagine that combined with this in a nice and convenient user interface!

Now "this" is a template the way it should be.  No second guessing of what the designer did with a jillion wrappers nested togethe like scrambled eggs.

I am a graphics type of guy and appreciate your work.

I'd like to work with you on further template development.  I don't know the coding stuff too well beyond html and css, but would love to help write a tutorial or helpers or anything along those lines.

Send me a private message when you have time.

Is there a mailing list to join to receive update notifications for FreedomBlocks?
