Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.26
Glowple - Glowing but simple
Glowple template is a simple, great looking template which is a tableless, elastic layout and easy to use backend options. It's a 3 column layout with header and footer. Optimized to be user friendly to 56k users. The template supports I.E5+(some I.E4 support), opera5+, firefox .8+, Netscape 6+, safari 3.
I've have tried to make it stable as possible on all browsers I could test, so it's friendly to 95+% of the visitors.
Valid xhtml 1.0, CSS 3 (when -moz-opacity is turned off), its also passes section 508, Priority 1 and 2 (Tested by hermish.com).
Uses no Javascript, all glowing effects are done with CSS.
Some features:
*Typography- Has notice, code, quote styles and more.
* Rounded corners, using only one image. Which you can choose the colour(5 colours) in the backend.
* 5 different site colours to choose from(Red, blue, green, purple, white).
* No editing a image for your site title
* And more...
Backend(1.25):
Any feedback will be great, and same with any bugs found.
Glowple Version 1.26:
www.speedingpc.com/files/glowple.zip
Use RC3+
Demo(1.25):
http://www.speedingpc.com/demo1/
Still having Joomla/server problems , but you can see the demo at least...
Default settings.
1.26 update:
-Able to choose either strict or transitional.
-Fixed a I.E5/6 bug.
-Sorted the backend.
1.25 update:
-Uses strict xhtml now.
-Able to have em or px layout.
-Max width is 100%.(So you no longer see the horz scroll bar.)
-Min width is 600px.
-Fixed the glowing boarders.
-Tweaked a number of items.
-Other small fixes.
-Seems to work in ie4 now.
1.1 Update:
-Added beam header image.
-Added random as a colour option.
-Fixed a few small bugs.
-Added missing strings in the language file.
I'm not sure If every page is strict yet, still doing testing.
Note: Some Default stuff isn't strict. So you need to make sure yourself that they are.

Instead of installing Joomla again I think I'll just take my other demo offline for now. Should have a demo ready in a sec.

RC2 has been dead for a long-long time.zammbi wrote: If I add this, does that mean RC2 will break?
APi changes, and much more.
Better look at milkyway and the actual SVN files for overrides.

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
I'm looking for some feedback/ideas, anything at all on what I can add/improve on in my finial version. Or even reasons why wouldn't you use this template and then I'll try to remove this reason

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
in IE7 your demo site is larger than in my 19 display browser - that is the window is larger than the LCD monitor, why?

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
The template layout is in em (elastic design http://www.htmldog.com/articles/elasticdesign/) so its bigger if the monitor is bigger, I'm also going to have a px layout too (which will be the same size in all monitors/browsers)

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
What resolution the screen is in? I could always add a max width of 100% so it won't be larger then the screen size, I think that would work...

my settings is for a simple 1024x768 and my display is a 19"
the right column is viewable only for a half part of it, then I need to use the scroll bar

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
Ok in the finial version, I'm going to add a max width so its a max 100% and wont need a horizontal scroll bar. I have already started working on this and have it nearly working, just working out some problems in firefox. So this should stop browsers that do em sizes a little different from being too big.
Plus I'll add a option to choose a px layout for those who want a fixed layout.

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
Seems to work great in ie7 and firefox. I have to use php to work out my max width % for areas, it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be but I got it working. So now it will only be a max 100% width and wont do a horizontal scroll bar for browsers that support the max width. Even if you put the width as a huge number(both em or px) it will still look nice in small screens.
Now for the testing in every browser I support incase I broke something...
Oh and ty for the feedback!

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
I ran into more problems so I wont be able to get a testing version up before I head to bed. Seems the max width is going fine, but I had to add min widths. Which isn't going so well in some cases when the browser window is made smaller. Though the funny thing is I got ie4 working ok

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.1
i think it needs a background and the corners of theboxes are not "round" or pixel free "transparent" (PNG .
Other than this and that i would use a wide header grafic the idea with a dark small basic site like this is nice but needs work...
Cheers

Yea I got told that today, I didn't notice this because I keep my screen brightness not high.i think it needs a background and the corners of theboxes are not "round" or pixel free "transparent"
Well you can change the header image, but yea currently they not that large. I might be able to add a few larger ones in.that i would use a wide header grafic
Ty for the feedback. Anymore comments on improvement will be great.

Re: Template Contest Entry - [Glowple] 1.25
When colour variation and right side background colour are set to be random I sometimes (once in 10 instances or so) get much smaller font size in the left menu, than usually. I use Opera 9.23, Joomla! 1.5 RC3. Header image is Glowing Cube.
Suppose, it's because one of the styles is different from the others.
