To link with menu icon

Hi.
I need to link articules or pages with the imagen (icon) that is posted at left (for example) in the menu.
The problem is that you can change the template, but is not the porpouse of to use Joomla, the idea is can put a imagen at left of the words that conform the menu and clicking the images can link the same location like this words.
I wish not need this words to make the menu, only with images.
If anyboby have the answer, I will be thankfull.
