Joomla! 2.5 Bug Reporting

Did you may have found a bug in Joomla! 2.5 but aren't sure?

The above quote sums up Joomla! in a nutshell. The intentions are noble but the execution is terrible. Even the name itself is bad. Why include punctuation in a name? Are you trying to piss off grammar checkers everywhere? Are you always excited like that dog in Up? Ball! Joomla!!

Most of the people involved are little more than trolls, myself included but at least I'm getting paid to do this. The typical attitude behind development is, unless you can get a bunch of loudmouths on your side or unless you can get everyone to agree with you, nothing will be done. If you report a bug, the initial response is to assume you're an idiot and to close it. It's kind of like the Great Benefits insurance company in the John Grisham movie, The Rainmaker. Fight every bug. It's expected behavior. No response. Closed. Oh it's 6 months later and dozens of more people are reporting it? Well you should have been clearer. It's a confirmed bug now but nobody cares anyways so it'll never be fixed. We broke half of the stuff from 1.5 during the move to 2.5 but some people still rely on some other 1.5 stuff so let's not change that. Documentation? What's that?! Professionalism? HAHAHA! Oh.. you were serious...

Joomla! is a platform. No, it's a CMS. No, it's both! But it sucks at both. Let's rethink what we mean by content in 2012! ACL? Never heard of it. If you give someone access to your backend, expect them to be able to BREAK IT COMPLETELY. Content versioning? Who needs that! Need something in Joomla!? Please submit changes to GitHub. It'll never get pulled in though. Make an extension. There's 100 ways to do anything and all of them suck. Menu Item -> Article -> Module. Problem? Templates, how do they work?! They don't. JAT3. SEO? That's not important. Do it yourself. That way you can have 4 different URL's to get to the same content. Won't it be fun making Google search bot puke! Don't worry, you can always edit 2,000 search results yourself. Need a custom 404? Sorry can't help you. How about a 302? That'll make broken pages nice and ambiguous. This ain't a CMS for grandma's! But that's too complicated! Joomla uses MD5 why not bcrypt or any other slow hash? YOU ARE AN IDIOT THAT'S WHY. Because Joomla uses SALTED hash which is COMPLETELY different! Who cares what happens in the future? GPU's will never get any faster. ASIC? AWHAT?

Even though I did may have found a few bugs, it's still better than Drupal though. *sigh* I still love you guys. Even if its an abusive relationship. You only hurt me because you love me, right?

WARNING: This was just a bit of steam-letting-off. Please do not let me discourage you at all. Joomla! sucks! but! not! as! much! as! everything! else!

I thought "what a load of incoherent twaddle", then read the last line and lol'd.

I guess we all feel that way from time to time.
