People tend to hear and read only what they want to. That's a quite normal response to complexity. It helps reducing it, making it less intimidating. Most of the time that sucks, I agree.

To add, as i said i am not an expert i am self taught for 6 months as something to do as a hobby. I assuming mandville if you studied in Brighton like me the first approach you learn at university is logic thinking and solving the problem yourself. Most things can solved by a little bit of logic and when all else fails you ask for help. Like as i said many times before i am no programer but come on if a plugin is not available for a version of Joomla then that means its not available for that version of Joomla. If you add that plugin and it does not work, you expect someone to program it an achieve something that took that developer probably months to achieve. Like come i am not a miracle worker.

The guy did what you described: s/he had a problem which s/he couldn't solve and then asked for help. Can't blame him/her for that. The only thing s/he may be guilty of is that s/he apparently thought coding a plugin is an easy thing to do and so s/he asked in a forum where s/he thought a bunch of professionals were hanging out eager to get the job done. That's naive or even cheeky but not stupid especially given that the language barrier probably also played a role.
Funny story though^^

Ah you can not have seen the question. No the thing was that the plugin he/she wanted was not compatible with Joomla 2.5. Which i told her, you can not use the plugin with Joomla 2.5 in so many words. He/She has downloaded the 1.5 version against my advice and then wondered why the plugin is not working as a result. The question was whether their is a version for Joomla 2.5 (The develop still only has 1.5). The problem why the plugin is not working is because its not the right version. Now i hold my hands up and admit that it could be language bariour problem and i am still more than willing to help. But does it not defy the point of the original question. I assume he/she either did not read the response or got the gist of the response wrong assuming if they download the extension then i would code it for them (which would still mean you did not read the response). Like i don't mean to come of sounding condescending but if he/she can write the question they must be able to read the response.

Sorry if I sound like a dick, bad day male PMS.

No, not at all :D

However, it seems like you haven't understood:
The person wanted a plugin for a version which was not available. So she asked here if someone could supply it. You denied. Then she said that she had made one but that it was not working due to a lack of skills on her side and asked if you could fix it.

I don't see that she is not able to understand that the plugin is not working because it is the wrong version. I only see that she has a lack of programming skills and was either unwilling or unable to pay someone to do the job. That's why she asked here. It's not a lack of listening, as your thread title suggests, but simply a lack of skills and probably money.
Then again, I'm not a native speaker either, so it could be a language barrier problem on my side :p.

Sorry dude, no big lamentation on the stupidity and ignorance of humankind ;)

That is why most of my responses are short, sharp sentences, useful for putting in the universal translator.
i just suggested they post in the joomlatune plugin forum.

Ok fleischwolf i stand to defeat. Sorry overstressed, overworked and no pay. I understand that its down to a language barriour and i should be a little more understanding in my responses (stick to one liners). I should return to the marketing forums to give my pessimistic outlook on SEO and complaining why people want something for nothing.

in today's scenario people have less time and lots of work prospects to do! nobody likes to read or listen long speeches or questionings! That's the easiest and straight forward reason! Thanks

Yea, I think it was just a language issue, Matt. Although, I tend to agree, people don't read all of the words in most posts. Sometimes, short posts are so terse that it's even more confusing. So, it's pretty tough to nail it all the time.

Very cool website, BTW, Matt. Hot. Really like it! <3 http://www.easternodyssey.com/
