Google Analytics vs Page Hits

Post by johstrom » Sat May 02, 2015 9:55 am

Hi,
I have encountered a strange phenomena: yesterday we had 1681 sessions for this article, according to Google Analytics:

http://tidningenkulturen.se/index.php/m ... te-lita-pa

But Joomla has only registered 36 hits... If Joomla doesn't count all hits, it's a pity...

We use CloudFlare and cache etc - can this be the issue?

Does anyone have any idea?

With kind regards,
- Johan.

If you're using System caching (the System - Cache) plugin, then Joomla will not record all your hits. Technically, nobody should rely on Joomla's number of hits when caching is enabled.

If you have ample resources, then I suggest you do some little optimization and you disable caching on your Joomla website.

Hi,
that's a shame. We do actually don't have any ample resources - we run cloudflare + memcache + litespeed. If we do not run the site with these services the whole server crashes due to severe load.

So I has to remove the hits from the articles front end. It doesn't look good if an article with 1000+ hits is shown as having only 35 hits...

With kind regards,
- Johan.

I'll agree however like itoctopus stated, if you have any type of caching then you know it's doing it's job. Those 36 hits were probably from the system starting to save the cache, and/or CloudFlare saving the page since it's viewed most commonly/frequently now. If you did see the same numbers then I would say your cache is not working correctly since Joomla is loading up all of the pages that number of times.
