Server running very slowly

I am with Site Ground and have cloud hosting package. However, I'm getting the belts of extremely sluggish performance which seems to be getting worse lately. I've listed below what I am using.

1 x 3.0 GHz CPU Cores, CentOS, 4GB RAM, 20GB SSD, cPanel, Cloud Storage, Management Services

A lot more plays into it than server specs. Different Joomla versions have different types of performance. The web server you're running, any type of caching layers involved, the PHP version (newer versions on average consume less memory and are more efficient), the amount of data being processed in your site's requests, and so much more.

You'd need to profile the site to figure out where the slow points are and how to optimize things.

If you have root access then SHH in and run 'top'

That command will show you all running processes and which ones are using the most cpu and mysql.

After logging in as root you simply type top and hit enter.
