Post by Tarandus » Sun Apr 23, 2023 10:56 am

Hi, are there any established Discord groups/servers for Joomla website users, developers?
Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

Welcome to Joomla forum!

Maybe you could search "Joomla" at Discord?
Or use the keywords Joomla + Discord in Google?

Thank you. I did search and so far only found resources for integrating Discord into a Joomla site like API etc. I am looking for a Discord community, server, that Joomla website devs might have and use.

ok let me see if i understnad this correctly.
you want another channel/place for people to discuss joomla and get help? but this time you want to put it on a chat platform that needs registration and who knows what other authorisation systems in place that can not be openly searched by guest users?
people believe that discord is the place the "young" go to get info in the same way [red dit] was a few years ago, slack a few years before that and FB has been as a continual since time immorial? oh and stack overflow seems the dev version of [red dit].
5/6 years ago two other major platforms created a discord server - lets look at the stats..
https://discadia.com/?q=drupal 423 members - 1 reported channel
https://discadia.com/?q=wordpress 4 main channels with a total user base of around 3500 people - a miniscule amount of the user base
now look at joomla Fb page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/joomlanospam/members 30k members.. Not sure on the mattermost page but i think that speaks for itself.
developer wise a LOT are on mattermost, or github. do you then split these down to specialist developers, eg CCK or gallery or slider developers? a general dev chat will prob be full of lurkers as its to general.
HU2HY- Poor questions = Poor answer
Un requested Help PM's will be reported, added to the foe list and possibly just deleted

Thanks for the perspective. I wasn't looking to start another group. I just wondered if there was one in existence on Discord, with voice chat. Sometimes it is nice to have a voice chat and discuss and Discord is familiar to me.

Hah! Thanks. I saw that thread when I was searching on this topic! It seems, at some point, someone else was looking for one as well or in that case, recommending a Discord group. I understand having "too many" groups. I was just wondering if there was one in existence as it is nice to have a voice chat at times. Thanks for the reply to my topic.

We're all about that Discord for some good ol' real-time, lightning-fast, and "let's not take life too seriously" chitchat. But when it's time to get all serious and archive knowledge like it's nobody's business, that's when we bring in the big guns - forums! They're like our secret treasure troves, storing all the wisdom, discussions, and solutions to life's conundrums. You can search 'em up and dive into the knowledge pool anytime you fancy.

Now, as for me, I'm all aboard the forum train. Why? Well, because forums give every discussion a snazzy title, so you can strut right to the content you want. Plus, it's like a clutter-free zen garden. And the moderators? They're like the knights of the forum realm, using those topics/titles to swiftly smite any inappropriate or off-topic content. It's like a dance of order and quality.

So, it's not about being a trendsetter or choosing between a chatty chat and a forum-y forum. They're just two quirky creatures, each with their own gig, and we love 'em both! 🤪 :pop :)
