Overall, it's a good list and I agree with it.

I do think it's a little snobby to say never use a code editor... I use Dreamweaver but I write the code myself... it's just nice to see all the colors and tags match up and it helps me find errors in my CSS faster (you can see when you forget a ; or } ).  I wouldn't say that makes me lazy... I think it makes me efficient.

I'd probably replace that line with "pays no attention to SEO best practices" ie uses tables willy nilly, doesn't bother with effective titles and meta descriptions, does not recommend SEO-friendly content, etc.

personally, lazy webmaster, i think, is a very evil term. Im like that, i dont edit my components straight away. I backward engineer everything i use, and only sometimes create modules. Im very young, and dont have much skill in programming yet! But i still like making websites, just because it gives me something to do. Im keen to learn everything, but i cant do it straight away, so when i have a free template, its because i dont know how to make a good one myself, but i will do when i get to it.
But i do agree, using code generators is silly, cos it creates mucky and ugly code.

Well you're young and starting out, that doesn't make you lazy.  But if you were marketing yourself as an experienced web designer and commanding the "going rate" for your work, and you still did those things... that would be lazy.

yeah, i agree with that, but thousands of people who have bog standard websites, are young people who just wanna make a website. But yes, people with the knowledge to make some amazing websites, and then dont actually make an amazing website...they should be shot, or dontate there knowledge to someone else...like me:)

I always have to laugh at articles like this. One the one hand the author is complaining about all of this. On the other hand, if every (wannabee) designer would use all these practices correctly, being a designer would be a badly paid job.

Good point Tonie!  We must stop letting these secrets out...

Still though, I get frustrated taking over sites from fools... or trying to convince people I care about that their sites require someone other than their cousin's stepson's dog as a designer.  HELLO! If you use an animated horizontal rule... you have no business designing anything but a blog about your stuffed cat collection.

I feel your frustration :). The morale of the story is right though. Every designer who has a tiny bit more than no ambition and experience should be using common practices. If not, than it's monkey business. Nice to know a few tricks, never understanding the material they are dealing with.

Depends really, no one can be an aexpert at all aspects, im terrible at graphics, not so good at php coding, ok like, but im good at the old SQL programming. Object orientated all the way is what i would like, things like VB6 and VB.NET:) shame you cant make a website using those, allthough, ASP.NET, hmmmm:)
