Over the years I've created most of my online stores using Zen Cart/OSCommerce. The thing is what I've always really wanted to do is to use my beloved Joomla! but as I'm not a fan of the shop integrations I've only ever used Buy Now buttons for simple purchases.

I'm now thinking of using Romancart - or similar - so I can make my site beautiful and have full Joomla! flexibility. I can't see any issues with doing this.

Any thoughts?

Any alternatives to Romancart?

VirtueMart seems to have a lot of the oscommerce/zen functionality in the backend... without being too feature-heavy.  Haven't used it much, mostly my business partner uses it.

Yeah, I think what appeals about a 'remote' cart is I can have a pure Joomla! site as the main tool. I've nothing against VM but IMHO there is always something these packages don't do that you wish they did. Separating the cart and using a dedicated cart script just appeals. I like software  that does one thing really well ;-)

Probably true.  I think I like learning one software style (Joomla in this case) and sticking to it... or maybe that just makes me too lazy to take on the more advanced PHP concepts that would allow me to feel that empowered with any system I come across.

I don't think you are lazy. I'm interested in results and being really on top of Joomla! lets me do most things I want - website wise. Despite there being 100's of alternatives (probably) software is just a tool, to me, and knowing your tools like any craft lets you do great things ;-) I guess it's about wanting to know about and use lots of cool tools or wanting to achieve something.
