I like this idea. I just heard about everything today. I'm new to Mambo but have done a lot of work with it in the past 3 months. I'm also working with phive on the soon to be re-named MamboOR (Mambo/Open Realty) component. It's nice seeing everyone's faces.

you know, one benefit of this picture thing is that when someone is asking for help or someone is responding to someone else's request, you can actually see that there is a person behind the post.  This way it is more personalized.  I like it.

Now, if only I can figure out how I can take my picture out of America's Most Wanted, I'll be alright.

hehehe

I like the photos too, though agree the pic at the top of the page should be optional. This is currently not available that I'm aware of in SMF. I've checked since I'm currently setting up a Mambo/SMF site.

Cheers,

Tobias

You can click on the up arrow in the top right corner to shrink that section of the layout.

yeah, for some reason, I always thought it was best and probably safer to hide behind an abstract avatar.  first time posting my pic and only did it because everyone, or at least almost everyone, have done the same.

funny - i was expecting faces that mimic the media's portrayal of nerds and geeks to be behind the _amb_ people.  am i surprised.

Hi,

I'm all for it. Makes the forums look far more personal and friendly. It's nice to be able to put a face to the names at last!

In case anyone thinks i'm a morbid or stern fellow from my pic, i just dont smile in pics  ;)

I have been accused by friends of colleagues of being over exuberant and I remember school reports using the terms 'bubbly' and 'energetic', so just in case anyone might think I'm not an unapproachable SOB  ;D

So anyone in my part of the world wanting to share a coffee/beer or any other poison of choice, i'll be happy to oblige  :)

Rey - I've been here for an hour - where are you? You have a high tab already from all your friends that showed up at your invitation! j/k - you know we appreciate you no matter what a foul disposition you have.

Well, this is my first avatar as a human. My old forum name was my real name, and my avatar was my company, so now I'll reverse it. My avatar is me and my forum name is my company! What a Geek thing to do, eh?

cheers!

It is funny that you would bring this up and even more so interesting to me is that I have not found myself judging anyone based on there photo. Infact, I have not thought anything other then, "ohh that is what that person looks like, cool."

That is not to say that I often judge people by there looks, but rather to say that I think people are far more self-conscious  about their looks then everyone here viewing them. Based on this little fact I think this idea is more of an epiphany then I would have imagined.

Great Job and Good Luck!

P.S. Photo is forthcoming

I suppose I should upload an image that actually shows my face.  When I get time, I'll make a new avatar.

Although the personal photographs is a huge step ahead from the unpersonal avatars used in the past, I guess we all can take it step further and also start mentioning at least your first name underneath the photo.

I love the creativity in making up nice and catchy userid's but it still leaves that bit of unpersonality. Or would that be stepping too far out of our comfortzones in too short a time ;) ???

best regards,
- Tom -

I am with you on that one. I don't feel comfortable in photos when I smile. In my case it is just too difficult to avoid looking either vacant or creepy with a smile on my face.

Personally I just started using a picture in another forum and found it works quite well - in addition to being more friendly I think it looks more professional.

I am fairly new to 'this CMS' but had already built up mental pictures of how many of the community might look. I have to say that as a group you are a fairly normal bunch, and a bit younger than I had envisaged. That probably says more about me than you though  :(

I'd really like to get another photo, but the current avatar is the only one I have on this machine. It looks very serious and perhaps even grumpy!

/time to get the digital camera back that has been on loan...
