For the fiirst time  I a site I made isn't found by Google or other searchengines. The url is http://vak-apart.nl/. It's a standard Mam$o 4.5.2.3 installation with proper metatags. The site has been up for ca. 6 weeks.
I've contacted Google and got a standard reply which didn't help. I contacted my hosting company and they said there weren't indexing problems with other sites on the server.
So I have no idea what to do next. Does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks, Tom

Hi,

There is definitely something wrong somewhere.

I have just run a google sitemap generator on your site & just get your index page plus 3 errors.

Try it here - http://www.blocklayer.com/googlesitemap/Default.aspx .

I use this on my site at http://gozo.ws and get perfect results every time.

Hope this helps you track down the problem.

Best regards,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Hi Tom,

Hope you soon find the trouble.

I am using the Xaneon Alias Manager component & find that it works very well with all the search engines.

Best regards,

Michael

My ISP says that Google doesn't allow meta keywords anymore. I don't believe that at all, but since I'm desperate I try anyhing :-\

Actually Google has ignored meta tags for a few years now.  Many SE's are starting to go that route, b/c spammers do nothing but abuse meta tags with false info.

As far as the search engines not finding your site, you should verify there isn't a robots.txt on your site that's blocking them.  Perhaps one got uploaded by accident or for some bizzarre reason one was autocreated by your hosting company or some software install.

Beyond that, submitting your site to google is virtually useless.  Make sure your site is linked to by at least one that Google already indexes.  They'll find you that way and place more value on actually indexing your site.

Google's ENTIRE search ranking forumlae are based around links to your site from others it already knows about.  Keywords on the page actually factor in second (or third).

I popped your site into a spider simulator and it seemed to come out ok so its nothing overtly wrong with the content/mambo.  (http://www.webconfs.com/search-engine-s ... ulator.php is the simulator I used)

Hope this info helps!

Thanks Biiliken, all suggestions are welcome  :). The robots.txt is okay. The most important dutch searchengine, Ilse, still advises the use of keywords, so I keep using them.
What's extra strange is that I built another site with Mam$o at the same time and that one was indexed within a few days. And I put the vak-apart site on some Mambo siteshowcases, so there are links to the site too.

Thanks all for replies so far, Tom

Hi Tom,

Yes stick with the keywords, Google have certainly used mine and in fact show them in their search results.

Hope you find what the problem is soon.....

Best regards,

Michael

Hi again Tom,

I have just generated a google sitemap for you, you can upload the code below to your site root named as sitemap.xml.

If you then go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitema ... -et-about2 , you can register and submit the map, Google usually download new maps pretty quickly.

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Just to be clear: Definitly don't stop using meta tags.. but as far as ranking goes.. they are not in the forumlae used by Google.  Google will use them to display descriptions.. but as I said.. they don't affect ranking.

As far as Google not indexing.. its quite possible that it may take a few more weeks as well.  I've seen some sites take 3 months before Google ranks it anywhere.

I uploaded the sitemap.xml and created the sitemap account, now let's wait and see  ;).
This is the first time in 5 years it takes more than a week for a site I added to Google to be indexed. I was just plain lucky until now?

Heh.. don't feel bad.. I had a web site I was working SEO on that was ranked in the 50's for a very competitive keyword.  After their infamous "Florida" update 1.5 - 2 years ago now.. that site ended up not being ranked at all anymore.  I spent MONTHS trying to legitimately get back on the rankings.. and was never able to fully recover.

Google really is a bear sometimes.

i think the easiest way to make your web listed on google is make your link appeared at the web that have a good pagerank (5 and above).
When your web appear on web that have 5 pagerank = your web will be indexed by google on 3-5 days
6 pagerank = your web will listed on 24 hours
7 and above = your web will be listed on 3-5 hours

Another approach is to get some good inbound links.

A fast way to achieve this is to put out a press release on one of the many news wire services which do have good page rank.

Hope you haven't been "sandboxed". Google sometimes does this if you've submitted the site "too often". Fingers crossed.

Can't stress the importance of inbound links these days.

I've been doing SEO for a couple of years now. There's some horror stories out there.

Content and links is what it is all about. And nothing trying to be too clever (stuffing keywords using css display:none and stuff).

Oh and most of my sites take 6 months to rank well for the given keywords. Some even longer.....

I usually get indexed once every couple of days because of my forum signature.  :)

Google sometimes acts strange. On a german form (non-joomla) multiple people have reported that after submitting a google map theire site disappeared completely from google. After removing the google sitemap, it reappeared. On any case I suggest to be careful when using google sitemaps as long as it is in beta stage.

As a matter of interest.

For some reason, Google becomes "more interested" in your site if you integrate Google Ads.

On the other side it doesn't seem to help if you create an AdWords acoount for the site. I tried this and started an account for the site that wasn't indexed. It did bring us extra visitors but didn't speed up indexing.
Finally the site was indexed, but without any information. But, hurray, I just had another look and it's okay now!

It's different bot for the ads and for the search. It's never been proven that google will include if you add an adsense account.

Google will spider your page to keep ads shown on your site relevant with the content.

Yes but that is a different spider. There are ones for check relevance of ads and then search bots.
