Highly offensive and certainly intended to be so, but, fine. Glad to hear you speaking frankly.

This goal was reached through the collective efforts of many, many people, including the Joomla! founders. Your efforts and the efforts of many, many others are very much appreciated.

I did not say it was untrue, I said it doesn't need to be our continuing rally. Mambo is behind us - the naysayers don't have to matter. It's the positive people - the teddy bear holders - who *can* make a difference.

We are Joomla!, now.

Yeah right Kosson I would concur with you on that as it is a collective effort by each one of us who are present and active as well as inactive on the forums.
Just out of the topic but your signature line is so true in the real world. Good one.

@AmyStephen

Selective quoting can be used by anyone to prove or disprove anything.
I always suggest to anyone to NOT quote partially because it is dishonest —and this is an understatement.
I wrote:

and not

Is my English so bad that you can't understand that I was talking about being "happy we took the right decision". It was not an easy decision to make and involved a lot of heart searching before it was made. So, yes, it would have been impossible without the community —which is written in my statement, twice— but the community would not have existed at all without the original decision.

This milestone needed some comment dealing with History and that is what was written on our site a few days ago. A simple line.
History with a H.

And it is NOT a continuing rally. Look at my posts if you really need to be convinced.
That would need honesty with an H.

[Note: to avoid any misunderstanding of my franglais I have had this reviewed by a native english speaker]

Reaching the 100k milestone is a wonderful achievement and I heartily congratulate the team for this achievement.

I also have to say that I agree with infograf. Joomla is free/libre open source software. It is developed as a software project. It is not a local bar where everyone is encouraged to chat over a beer. It is not a lobby group for the open source philosophy.

Infograf is also correct when he said there were a lot of naysayers at the beginning. He didn't mention Mambo, nor did he need to. At the time Joomla was founded there were a lot of new open source projects being created and a lot more failing. Anyone involved in the management of any successful FOSS project realises the tremendous amount of work and personal sacrifice that goes into building a viable and sustainable project. The fact that almost two years later, Joomla is as strong as it is, is a credit to those who took the vision and ran with it.

While the community is important, it is neither the driver of the development nor the reason for its existence.

Jean Marie - I shouldn't have quoted in part.  :P I should have waited to respond. Sincerely, I am sorry.

These are interesting distinctions in perspective. Thanks both of you for sharing - I mean that. Lynne - TONS of respect for you and your contributions.

I think these differences, even as slight as they might seem, do represent an obvious and noteworthy distinction in our community that we are attempting to bring 'all together, as a whole' and that is the pre- and post-split membership.

It's time to move on. Let's not focus on those who might have predicted Joomla!'s failure, but rather let's focus on our message - and those committed to Joomla!'s success and where we *want* to go.

It's been two years (nearly), time to put that away. It was one "industry expert" who was referenced in that piece - we are celebrating the voices of 100,000 Forum members and countless other end-users who have never joined our forums. Let's give our attention to those positive voices now and disregard the early naysayers.

The other points you are raising about the importance of community was not even one I was raising, but an interesting conversation we could have - and, at that time, if we ever have such an opportunity, beer would be the perfect accompaniment.  ;)

Kind regards! Honestly!
Amy :)

We are Joomla!, now.

I'm installing you all on my server this afternoon! LOL

I hope none of you folks are buggy!

Truth is we are not Joomla we are simply Joomla users and members of the community of users. We are users BECAUSE of the success of Joomla as a project not the cause of that success.
We are no more Joomla than people are Windows, Linux or OSX.

This to me is where all of the controversy in this project resides.
the Majority of users thinks of Joomla as a very successful, well designed program code that is being developed by some savy programmers who are not afraid to listen and incorporate ideas from people that use the program...not just the teddy bear carrying members of Joomla Community but even the nay sayers as well! All Criticism is looked at by the working groups and valued for it's insight if any exists.

THIS is why Joomla is successful and we as users may have contributed to that success but we are not the cause of that success. Nor do we deserve the majority of credit!

There is another group here that thinks Joomla (and OS/GPL) is a Social movement...
They want to vote on everything that Joomla does and take credit for whatever success it has...
The Community did not make Joomla or make Joomla great...
On the contrary it is the greatness of Joomla that made the community

It doesn't matter one bit how large or how involved the community is if the program just doesn't do enough!

The J! teams deserve the credit for the success of this code and project, Yes users who help other users are valuable, inspirational and influential in keeping the users J! attracts in the fold, But the community could not make this contribution if J! was not well written and engineered to lure the new users here in the first place!

I help users all the time...But I do not feel like I had much to do with the success of Joomla...More like Joomla has contributed to my success because when someone asks me for a website they can run on their own I have been able to install Joomla, create a quick template for them and they think I'm a genius for being able to do this in the timeframe of a day!
I did not draw people here nor did I add any specific features to lure anyone to the project.

It is for this reason that I am often siding and backing the Devs on issues in this community...
Because I know without them there is no community or project.

and I just don't feel it is right for us USERS to stand up and pound our chest and proclaiming how great we are for installing a program, registering on the forums, and annoucing we are now the project!

We are not!
Joomla is a program, well designed, well engineered and well recieved.
It is not a social movement and it is not a new world order!

It's a program and if we users want to feel pride then we should be proud that we as users were smart enough to recognize the greatness of this project the developers have brought us and stop trying to get credit and power in things not of our own making!

Amy - before you get all defensive the bit I quoted was for the words said not you specifically...what I said is not directly related to you personally as you are not the only one who believes Joomla is a Social Movement as opposed to a program!

Joomla is not an ideology...It is simply a program...and a damn good one at that!

No, not defensive. I don't have a problem with you quoting me on that, Mike. We are Joomla!. All together, As a Whole.

I disagree with your attitudes regarding the community but I appreciate you sharing your beliefs. I learn from you and I thank you for that.

But, "community" wasn't what I was talking about. To focus back in on my original point, our message about the 100,000th Forum member is a positive one! It speaks to the commitment of the founding group that Jean Marie refers to; to those end users who came over when the split took place; and, to each of us who joined in later and did what we could to help.

Let's celebrate this success.  :)

Less than 1000 (895!) to go to 100,000 joomla members.

Congratulations Joomla!

And now, I suppose, we should close this thread I started on the 5th of April 2007.

Lets just keep it about the registration of the 100,000th member.
